Q: Anyone having issues with Profile Manager and User Groups not pushing?

My User Group Profiles are not pushing to the Computers.  It shows the task as active and it just sits there indefintly.  If I create a Device Group Profile it pushes with no issues.  Anyone know how to troubleshoot this or experiencing this problem?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7)

Did you open all the necessary ports in your router?

No Ports are required to be open on the router.  All the MACs are located on the same LAN as the server.  Also device profiles are pushing properly to the Macs and iOS devices.  I am only having trouble with the User/Group Profiles not pushing.

You're not alone. I am seeing the same thing. Changes to device profiles push successfully, changes to users sit in the active state and neither fail nor succeed.

I'm using machines on a local network. I've given Lion control over the Time Capsule, but again the clients are on the private network. So I agree, open ports are not the issue. I presume a self-signed certain issue would a failure not a hung task.

I was thinking it may be the self signed certificate as well, but I assumed everything is okay because the trust profile worked for both the workstations, and iDevices, and it was only my group profiles that just hang and never fail or complete.  I also checked the console logs, but was not able to gain much info there on what the issue might be either.

Wow! just re-read my post, I swear I was sober when I wrote it!!

    The last sentence should read:

I presume a self-signed cert issue would cause a failure, not a hung task.

@chris4prez, I take it you caught my meaning despite the typos...

No worries, completely understood, I was under the influence when I read it as well so it made 100% sense.

Did you try logging your users out and back in?

Logging out. rebooting the client. rebooting the server. all tried.

I'm wondering if this is really just not the right use of profile manager...

I was looking to add parental controls to a user, and it just wouldn't push in Profile Manager. I log in is the kid and all **** is available.

I finally went to Workgroup Manager, and added the Parental controls to the account there. Next login and the controls work as expected.

So Im confused on use of profile manager to manage users, versus use of Workgroup Manager.

I'm thinking the user profiles are better for iOS settings and the Workgroup manager is better for OS X settings.

are your users network users? try deleteing the mobile account and relogging them back in this seems to work for me.

You could try this...just a shot in the dark.

I noticed that my 10.6 server had 'localhost' in the DNS settings and Lion does not.  Try this:

Go to DNS-Settings and under "Accept recursive queries from the following networks"

    add 'localhost' under the localnets.

See if that works and let me know.

Make sure your clients (laptops and desktops) have primary DNS pointed to your Mac Server. Then reboot. Hope that helps.
