Aug 1, 2011 12:41 AM in response to Ellen Higginsby opentrail,Since installing Lion I have the same issue.... in fact it used to happen on an earlier version of Mac OS X and was fixed I think by the Leopard release. Seems to have creeped back into the Lion release.

Aug 1, 2011 7:10 AM in response to Velonaby sdp33,That might be it. If you can get another 4 GB (the very same with the one you already have) add it in the second slot. If not, get an 8 GB kit and replace what you have. Crucial memory works great.

Aug 1, 2011 2:14 PM in response to Velonaby Ellen Higgins,No, I have not gotten any resolution to this. I sent it to Apple as a possible bug as Rorymac above suggested.

Aug 1, 2011 5:23 PM in response to iVmichaelby sdp33,Might be that the Mac Mini is limited in what it can do.
I was really considering getting the new one (90% of the time I had to force it to shut down) until I thought I'd give it one more chance by upgrading the memory. Since I got the memory up to 8 GB, no more problems. It wakes from sleep right away (I usually hit the return key on my Bluetooth keyboard) and no more spinning beach ball.
I got the Crucial 8 GB kit from Amazon for a very good price.

Sep 21, 2011 12:41 AM in response to iVmichaelby gkclrwatson,I have just been through this issue with Apple specialist support for my Mac Mini Server (mid 2011). Although resetting the PRAM, PMU, safe mode didnt work I did some playig on my own and it appears not enough current is being pushed from Lion to wake some monitors. One option that should fix the issue is selecting the video input of choice in your monitors settings ie HDMI instead of Auto detect. This has resolved my issue

Oct 8, 2012 1:41 AM in response to Velonaby Frodo71,Hi Everybody,
I bought my wife the Mac Mini 2011 and recently upgraded with a Samsung SSD. But it kept not waking up from sleep mode. I tried everything. Resseting all Rams. Nothing helped.
Finally i replaced the HDMI cable with a HDMI to DVI adapter which comes with teh MINI and used a standard DVI cable to my monitor.
This solved everything.

Mar 15, 2013 8:10 AM in response to opentrailby Yermudder,I have sort of the same problem. My late 2012 mini (quad i7, 16 GB, twin 23" Viewsonic monitors) will wake up from the keyboard if it put itself to sleep, but not if I did it. But it jumps back to life when I touch the power button. I figure it's just the way it works. Slightly annoying but not a big deal.

Jan 4, 2014 4:34 PM in response to Ellen Higginsby Norbert Wu,I have a mid-2013 model Mac Mini. It’s been working fine with a 4-port USB 3.0 Anker hub which came with a power supply. Recently, however, my Mac Mini would never wake up if I put it to sleep. It was absolutely impossible to wake up. I did the usual things, like resetting PRAM and the SMC controller. Nothing worked. The only thing I could do, if the computer went to sleep and then into a coma, was to pull out the power cord from the Mac Mini and restart.
The only thing that had changed was that I had put in a new USB hub. I had purchased a new USB 3.0 HooToo hub that had no power supply. I had put an old power supply from a cell phone on it (it was rated to output 0.5 amps). Pulling out the USB hub while the Mac mini was in a coma did not work, so I did not think that the USB hub was the problem.
I did more reading on forums, and a few forums gave me the solution to my problem. The problem is that a USB hub connected to a Mac requires a lot of power if there are a lot of devices connected to it. If that USB hub does not have enough power, then for some reason the Mac that the USB hub is connected to will go into a coma. It simply will not wake up from Sleep.
My older Anker 4-port hub came with a power supply that is rated to output 2.5 amps. I connected an old Apple ipad charger to my new HooToo USB hub. This power supply supplies 3.0 amps, and the Mac Mini is now waking up from sleep just fine – and super quickly. I think that the problem is solved.
I can see that there is a Hootoo hub on Amazon now that sells with a 4-amp charger. The older Hootoo hub that I bought, and which did not come with a charger, is discontinued.
Summary: If you are having problems waking up your Mac or PC from its sleep state, then see if the problem is being caused by your USB hub. If taking the USB hub off your laptop solves the problem, then look into providing more power to your USB hub.
