I have exactly the same problem. This is a screenshot taken a few minutes ago showing that the latest backup was on 7 July. I am writing this on 20 July. Loaded Lion...could that be the problem?

    See this:

I did A4 and reset Time Machine for the same issue and it was fixed.

    Thanks ... Ken

Hi Ken: Thanks! Just what I was looking for. I am away for a day or two but will give it a try after I am back and I am sure that will work.

    Hi Ken

It DID work but not wiithout a struggle. Finding the TM file was easiest to do with a search for system files. I had to exclude application from the backup to get a manageable quantity and even then it took a few hours. Thanks.

Don't leave your Applications file excluded; if you need to do a full system restore, you won't be able to do it successfully.

I'd like to include the applications file but that will take forever. Before I try doing this a very basic question.

I am doing this on a Mac Book. When I close the cover I supose everything stops, including downloads. When I leave it open the screen turns black after some time and I wonder if the backup goes on as long as I keep the MacBook open (similar may be as leaving my iMac on).

In that case I can let it do its thing overnight and have hopefully the applications included in the morning.

Of course power comes out of the wall rather than a battery.

It shouldn't, unless you're backing-up over a network with a bad WIFI connection.

How large are your backups, and how long do they take?  If they're quite slow, see the green box in #D2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

That should be "dispay sleep," per the setting in System Preferences > Energy Saver.  If so, yes, the screen goes black but all other processes continue normally.

I am backing up via a USB connection and now that I know that's only the display that is asleep I'll go right at it and hopefully can report success in the morning.

Rather than the whole night it took not more than say 20 minutes to back up 9.70 GB. All help given very much appreciated.
