like many others, i keep getting freezes with safari 5.1 on my imac, although it seems to be running fine so far on my MBA.

anyhow, here's a symptom i haven't found in the discussions:  it flat-out refuses to open a new window.   i can open new tabs, but if i either do command-N or choose new window from the file menu, nothing happens.  no freeze or crash, just... nothing.  in addition, if i click a URL in an email, if safari is not running, fine.  if it is, it switches to safari but the link doesn't open.

i also tend to get hard freezes (beach ball of death) that require force quit pretty often.  disabling safari extensions makes no difference, nor does logging in with a newly-added account.  seems like the freeze happens a lot, but not always, when viewing pdfs, or clicking on links that would seem to require opening a new window.

any ideas?
