I don't think Spotlight searches show system files, and the ~/Library folder is hidden in OS X. From the Finder menu try, Go > Go to Folder … and then type in ~/Library/Preferences and click OK. That should show you the folder so you can find the file.

I can't test that because I've reenabled the display of my ~/Library folder.

I had the same issue as the OP - I just found that deleting the plist file as suggested, then unchecking and reselecting 'Three finger drag' got everything working again.

EDIT: everything, that is, except 'Tap to click' and 'Secondary click (click or tap with two fingers'. ????

P.S. I did just install the new Logitech Control Center, which was updated for Lion, to configure my Logitech mouse. That's when the issues started for me.

    Having similar issues here.

Running the late 2010 model iMac 27" - I loose my safari gestures constantly.

When they go they really go ... double swipe is disabled single swipe(with the "page-slide" animation)

full-screen option, and tap to zoom are all disabled.

This update is becoming a headache ... also support hasnt responded to any of my emails.

I am seeing now why this cost $29 ....

Yes, this is EXACTLY what I did and now the 3-finger swipe between desktops in Mission Control does not work. If I do a 3-finger up to view all desktops, then the 3-finger swipe will move desktops.  So, how I bring back my 3-finger swipe?

+1 from me too. It was fine up to a week ago then I have no gestures other than the basics. All of the 'more gestures' no longer work. I tried some of the fixes from here i.e. rebuilding of the permissions (fixed it for about ten minutes), unchecking all the gestures and reticking them all (again fixed for a few minutes).

This is broken at OS level, no doubt about that but I find it difficult to believe that such a basic level of functionality couldn't be found in the beta test phases.

Really hope that 10.7.1 is coming soon as Lion is ruining my Mac experience at the moment.

i was able to get my gestures back by going to settings and unchecking all of the gesture settings, rebooting and then one by one re checking the ones i wished to use.. when i discoverd they worked again i then rebooted again just to see if it would be affected and it was not. so as of right now all my gestures work.

EDIT i should also mention that i am using a track pad not the magic mouse.. but from what i can tell some of the gestures will NOT work with the magic mouse. regardless of what you do.

Actually to add to this I've found that my problem seems to be linked to going either to a screensaver or sleep mode as I restarted the machine this morning, everything was fine. Worked for a while and all gestures were working perfectly. Left the machine for a while and came back and it was in sleep mode. After coming out of sleep all the gestures that are usually broken were not working again, a restart of the machine 'fixed' them.

So, it's a state-reset coming out of either sleep or a screen saver that's causing this.

I've changed my screen saver from a third-party to a Lion supplied one to see if that helps.

    More info when get it.

I discovered this morning that the mouse swipes work as expected, but the track pad stuff is still not working properly. Very strange!

I'm seeing the same thing as well.  I recently bought the 13" MBA Core i7.  Twice today the 3-finger swipe in Safari has stopped working.  Quitting and restarting Safari does not fix the issue, but restarting the system does.  Next time I'l see if any other apps exhibit the same behaviour when it happens (what other apps use 3-finger swipes?).  I think the 4-finger swipe still worked ok.

Like Wingedwraith says I have tracked down the problem and reproduce to the same thing :

Using a non apple screensaver that crashed, made mission control, gestures and spaces unavailable.

The exception thrown in the crash report is this:

    Date/Time:   2012-01-19 10:16:21.446 +0100
    OS Version:  Mac OS X 10.7.2 (11C74)

    Report Version:  9

Crashed Thread:  0  Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)

    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000111f0c00c

    VM Regions Near 0x111f0c00c:

    MALLOC_LARGE       0000000111e54000-0000000111f0c000 [  736K] rw-/rwx SM=PRV

    -->

    MALLOC_LARGE       0000000111fcc000-000000011213c000 [ 1472K] rw-/rwx SM=PRV

So the only way to make it work again is to kill the dock by typing in the terminal  Killall Dock

Of course it can be avoided by using one of lion's screensavers

Just got my new MBP yesterday - my old MBP was the Core2Duo 2.16 and it only had basic 2 finger swipe gestures.  Anyhow, I've had fun using them in the last 2 days, but tonight, same issue as many of the rest of you: using the gestures, couple minutes later - no more gestures?!!!  I went to my System Prefs/Trackpad and noticed that all of the 3 finger gestures had been changed by the system (or me inadvertantly ) to 4 finger swipes.  I switched them all back to 3 finger and poof, they're back.

Anyhow, check your Sys Prefs carefully if your gestures suddenly disappear - it could be that somehow they got switched.

This happened to me today. I had installed Little Snitch to monitor incoming and outgoing network activity. I had walked away and the screensaver tried to kick on. for some reason, it wanted to talk to apple, but little snitch wouldn't let it, so it failed. ever since, my gestures didn't work. The Killall Dock method via terminal worked wonders tho. thanks. Now i'm wondering why the screensaver wanted to talk to apple...

I randomly got this problem on my MBP I've had for about a year. I didn't have the plist file, so to resolve I needed to uncheck all of the checkboxes and restart and then recheck them again. I tried without doing the ones on the scroll & zoom tab but it didn't work, only seemes to work when I unchecked them all.

Tom, thanks for the plist suggestion.  That solved it for me!

I was going to do a restart but decided to just turn the Magic Mouse off and on to see if that would fix it... It did
