Hi,

My internal speakers make the usual sound on startup but after booting my speaker symbol in the menu bar is greyed out and in Audio Midi setup the source "digital out" cannot be changed and the volume sliders are blocked too, see attached picture.

The problem first occured after a power failure with 10.6.8., I was hoping that Lion would fix the whole thing but it didn't...  I did the usual things: careful permission repair before upgrading etc, I even tried repeatedly plugging and unplugging headphones or careful poking around in the Phone jack with a tooth pick, as some websites have suggested.

Any ideas what to try next?

Thanks, Joe.
