Q: IDVD was not installed on new macbook pro  ..help

I just purchased a new Macbook Pro which came pre-installed with Lion and ILIFE'11.   However, IDVD was not included. You believe that?

I called Apple Pro Care and was told it is not longer included with ILife '11 (either is IWeb).

When ILIFE '11 comes preloaded, no disks are included, you have to re-install from APPS. APPS does not have IDVD, if  IMOVIE is re-installed from APPS no IDVD comes in. Appears you have to buy the $49 box set to get IDVD.

This seems ridiculous to me.  Apple Care told me to download a 3rd  party program for DVD burning. Right!

Can anyone help..I do have IDVD 09 on my Mac Pro desktop.

1. How do I move IDVD '09 to my Laptop?

2. Also does anyone know if  the IDVD that comes with ILIFE'11 box set has been updated or is it still the '09 version?

Very frustrated with Apple!

You will have to install iDVD onto you MBP since there are themes that need to get installed along with the application. I don't know if you'll be able to do it but look on the disks that came with your Mac Pro for an installer package titled "Install Bundled Software".  It may look like of of these disks:

If you can find it try installing iDVD with that installer. If the installer does'nt work keep the disk in the optical drive and use Pacifist to find the iDVD installer in that package and install.  That might work.

You might have to purchase a current iLife 11 boxed version (check the small print on the box to make sure iDVD and iWeb are listed in small gray text).

I've been aware of this situation for a few days.  When I ordered my computer on Monday, the sales rep I spoke with told me that, as far as they knew, iDVD was included with the new Lion iMacs.  She was very nice and even checked with her supervisor.  I told her that people have been posting comments to the contrary.  She told me that if I got my computer and it didn't included iDVD, call her back and she would "make it right". Presumably by sending me a free copy of the boxed iLife '11.

When I got my computer yesterday, it had Snow Leopard (and iDVD).  I upgraded to Lion and iDVD seems to run fine under Lion.

I've been posting about the iDVD not being included with the new computers, and it seems like only a few people care. This could work to your benefit.  If I were you, I'd call Apple Sales and tell them that you thought the complete iLife suite was included with new computers.  If you strike the right balance of being nice and persistent, maybe they'll send you a free copy of iLife '11.

Good to hear.  Yesterday someone posted that their new Mac didn't have iDVD or iWeb.  'Tis a puzzlement.

Thanks so much for all your help.  Apple no longer ships hard disks with the computers, forcing us to use APPS.  In this case, I have no where to go to fix the problem. No disk was shipped for the operating system either.  I did open up IMOVIE and look thru everything in the application. No IDVD in there.

So I will go directly  Apple and ask for IDVD.

    Wish me luck.

    Thanks I will.

I also sent your response to my personal MAC expert.  He helped me with my online purchase and I go to him whenever all other Apple-type avenues have been exhausted.

I will let you know if Apple is willing to send me the ILife box set. (smile).

If you have to reinstall in the future it might be worth the price of the boxed iLife 11 to have a disk with all of the iApps on it ready to be installed.  You can get it here: iLife '11

I would purchase iLife 11 on DVD ( not a download).

    The price is low.

I also just purchased iMac with  OS 10.7.1 and it comes with iLife and no idvd or iWeb.  SO why don't they just tell you to buy the box set?  And it is not on their app store either, you have to purchase the box set in order to get iDvd.  This to me is just crazy!!

    Yes it is.

Tell Apple how you feel.  They do read these comments, and often react.  Be nice.

(On the above link, you will notice under Mac apps they do indeed show, iDVD!)

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $29. You WILL get iDVD.

or if you like downloads (I don't) Go to the Apple Store via the Store button at the top, (not the App Store) and look for iLife 11 it will list iWeb and iDVD.  It IS available online.

you can even find an old copy of iLife09 and custom install iDVD only.  Software update will update it to the newest iLife 11 version.

I am experiencing the same thing; no iDVD installed on my new MacBook Pro even though it has iLife11 installed on it already. This is stupid. I still burn DVDs!!!! Apple - where has your brain gone to????
