I am having a problem with iCal that seems similar to this.
I have MobileMe, with 2 iPhones and 3 Macs syncing with it.
Since 2 of the macs are pre-Snow-Leopard, they are using the new WebDav connection method.
Most things work fine, but this happens sometimes...
Today my wife added a new event to one of the synchronized calendars.
This event was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon (about 27 hours away), in case that matters.
Within a minute or two, the event disappears from iCal.
I check the other two computers, it does not appear in iCal on either of them.
I check my iPhone and my wife's iPhone -- the event DOES appear on both.
I check https://www.me.com/calendar/, and the event DOES appear there as well.
An hour or two later, this event re-appears in iCal on the computers (looks like all around the same time).
A couple of guesses on this:
* iCal bug where this event in the database is getting overlooked. The original system, after a sync, re-draws its display and does not display the event. The event is probably in the database on every system, and other iCals exhibit the same bug.
* This event gets sent to the MobileMe server, but somehow is not sent back until later. Not sure why it would get REMOVED from the originating computer, but maybe on first sync this happens, then later, when MobileMe decides to send the event, it appears.
This has happened a number of times, sometimes with the variation that she has re-added the event, the re-added entry does NOT disappear, then some hours later the original re-appears, and is therefore a duplicate (although sometimes with slightly different text since she may not have typed the event title the exact same way both times).
I do not remember this happening before MobileMe moved to the new calendar type late last year.
Any suggestions on fixes or debugging steps?
Searching by Apple's web and others, I found no solution and you are the only one who has similar problems.
At last, yesterday evening I cut all my mobileMe connections (in all devices, iMac, iPhone & iPad), because I was loosing working data, for me very important.
It seems to be ok, no more lost, .. by the moment ! )
Hope iCloud works better, I'll be one of trying again.
I add an event in iCal ---> event is suddenly gone --> yet still appears in MobileMe Calendar as well as on any iOS device (iPhone, iPad)... if I change the event in MobileMe (e.g. change time to 5 min earlier or later), the event will show up again in iCal immediately.
This is what I have tried out so far:
Deleting the calendar and setting it up again --> no help
Resetting the com.apple.iCal.plist file --> no help
Deleting all iCal cache files in user library --> no help
Does anybody have a solution/fix for this issue? ...or perhaps further suggestions what to try out?
I have seen the same thing with Mobileme and I am hopeful that iCloud will be better. One workaround (not a fix) is to edit the entry on the device that you find it or on me.com. The edit has to be more than bring it up in edit and save it, adding a note will work. That seems to jumpstart the entry and have it appear on all devices immediately.
I am not finding events I put in ical on my mac. However the events are listed on mobile me and on my iphone. Very stressful. It is happening to events every day. I can not go through and change them all. Syncing does not help. Any solutions?
I have encountered the same problem - events created would disappear even though they propagated to other devices - and got onto Apple support about it. Turns out the solution appears to be to uncheck syncing Calendars in the MobileMe systems preferences. NB this applies only if you are using the new CalDAV calendar (check iCal -> Preferences -> Accounts). Apparently iCal handles its own syncing through the CalDAV interface, so the sync option in MobileMe Sync prefs is redundant.
Are you on Snow Leopard or Lion? I recall seeing somewhere that calendar syncing is removed in Lion, which if true may have something to do with the fact that this problem only started cropping up recently, i.e. around the release of Lion
I'm losing events on iCal by itself (i.e., without any MM linkage). They just disappear, which means I've had to make sure everything I put on iCal is on my Google Calendar as well. I'm using Snow Leopard. Not a huge issue, I know, but it is annoying.
This is really annoying!! But you're right brehob: The events created in iCal (which then suddenly disappear) eventually re-appear after a while, though in my case it's more than 2h and more like 15-18h
Can you please fix this, Apple? It's insane that after a user creates an event in iCal it disappears on the Mac but can still be viewed on any iOS device including the calendar on me.com - then after a while iCal shows the event again. It's like Apple telling its users: "Switch to iOS devices like iPad, iPhone and iPod and stop using your Mac - we now live in Post-PC world" !
I am having the same issue running Snow Lepard on my MacBook and losing the event on that machine while it appears on my iPhone 3G.
Very annoying and it makes the calendar pretty useless.
Sorry Apple, there must be a better solution provided by someone else. Get it fixed.
I have the same issue running iCal on 10.6.8. The events are created in iCal, sync to MM and iPhone, yet dissappear from iCal visibility....only to later return (many "new events"). Been an issue for a couple weeks now. Might have been triggered by Mail and iCal associations?, since I started using mail and associating calendar requests around the time this started.
I have had this same problem. I am running multiple machines (intel & PPC), with Snow Leopard & Leopard. I would enter an event via a PPC Mac and it would go to Mobile Me and my iPhone, but then dissappear from the original Mac. It would not show up on any of the other Macs as well. Refreshing from iCal or ReSyncing would notbring them back (did not try updating the event from MobileMe webpage ... what a hassle that would be). Tried doing the fix Andrew Macrae suggested about removing the Calendar Sync option from Mobile Me. Refreshed the calendar from iCal and the missing events immediately showed up (on intel/Snow Leopard Mac). When I checked my other Macs again (the mix of intel/PPC), the events were added there too, even though I had not changed the Mobile Me preferences. Regardless, I am going to be removing the Calendar Sync option on Mobile Me for all my Macs.
Kudos to Andrew!
