Intel X25-M G2 SSD here. Started since Lion, used to work fine in SL 10.6.8.

I'm exeriencing the same thing on an iMac with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro card, that doesn't do dynamic switching. While I agree that it could be my motherboard, I NEVER experienced this with Leopard or Snow Leopard. I have experienced it about 10 times since upgrading to Lion. So my gut reaction is to believe it is software related in Lion. I really hope that's the case, and I hope it gets fixed.

Same problem here, either black screen or full GUI freeze with spinning wheel.

MBP/15-inch, Mid 2010/4GB RAM/Stock but for a 128GB KINGSTON SVP100S2128G SSD replacing the original HD, running under Mac OS 10.7.0 .

Hmm it's interesting that no one so far have this issue with a 100% stock machine.

The problem seems to happen especially often when using the current version of NetNewsWire, which is one of the applications which forces my MBP to render with the NVidia discrete graphics card.

Also, I use gfxCardStatus, but only to monitor which graphics are used, not to force any change.

    hi! i'm your man!

    running a mbp 6,2

    15" i7 2,66

    hdd hitashi 500G 5400rpm

    4GB memory DDR3

having this issues on lion and i'm back to SL 10.6.8 (on apple assistance demand)

waiting for a crash on SL to report to apple and then perhaps speak to a supervisor.

but the MBP seem's to be fine on 10.6.8, he wasn't on lion, he wasn't before lion.

i wanted to change HDD for a SSD an 4BG to 8GB but, i'll wait.... (don't know why "")

    @Mantralux, I have a 100% stock machine.

    mid-2010 15" MBR, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 330M 512MB

I didn't have this problem with 10.6.7, but once I upgraded to Lion, I'm experiencing all of the BSOD issues that people are reporting.

I think Mantralux is saying that there are some MBPs with the 330M GPU that have the problem, and others that don't. Some posters have reported exactly this.

Meanwhile, I had the problem on my MBP with a 9400M GPU (and no switching - gfxCardStatus gave no joy) with Lion, but never with Snow Leopard. But when I removed smcFanControl, the problem stopped!

So it looks like Lion has introduced some video management that, in conjunction with other factors, can cause kernel panics, but that some MBPs with the 330M GPU had a problem that causes similar symptoms, and may be aggravated by Lion.

Still waiting for the update ...

an add-on to my last post.

before lion : a few crashes.

during lion : a lot of crashes.

a phone call to apple and they say : you have to test your hardware, bring your MBP to an apple technician.

the technician said : everything is all right. it's a software issue. make a clean install of SL and wait for a lion update.

SL installation and one test : imovie. a movie rotation, click play : BANG! black screen!

    SL reboot, crash report.

phone call to apple, the supervisor said : send me your "computer information" and your crash report.

    ...

    ...

the supervisor said it's hardware : graphic issue. Nvidia issue. Go back to the technician, he will change the logic board. No need to run hardware test.

well i'll bring my MBP and the lion usb key i made. If lion don't run properly after the logic board replacement, they'll keep the computer.

next post : perhaps an other story.

Same issue on an early MPB 17 with the nVidia chip!

@Martin, don't hold your breath on a quick fix from Apple.

I have had this happen twice on my 17" 2011 MBP (2.3 i7, 256 SSD, 8GB RAM), since installing Lion. Never occured under Snow Leopard. Once it happened after MBP was awakened from sleep. No warning, screen just went black requiring a restart. The bugs seem to be stacking up under Lion.

    SOLUTION *** 100% Working ***

    1. Install the app " gfxCardStatus"

    2. in Menu bar check "Integrated Only"

    3. Reset

After these steps I have experienced NO Crashes on Lion !!!!!

Let me know about your experience...

This has happened to me three times now with my 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 MBP 13" running Lion, 8 GB of RAM.  Not just isolated to the 15" & 17".  What's up, Apple?  Each time it's when the MBP goes into "sleep" mode, I return and try to wake it, nothing.  Black screen.  I have to hard-boot it over & over to get it back to life.  Not good.

This is not a "solution", this is a workaround, and that too an ineffective workaround. What about serious professionals who use graphics intensive softwares like Aperture, that need discrete graphics ? What about people with external displays ?
