My new 15" MBP also suffers wireless dropout. I run a Netgear router which previously, using a 2009 Macbook and a 13" MBP, was faultless. On adding the 15" MPB it was unable to hold a wirelss connection successfully. It also seemed to destabilise the network and brought the other 2 machines offline also. It is almost as if it's causing the router to fault in some way. Spoke with Apple support and followed their instructions to remove the systems preference folder, no joy. I have adjusted all of the security settings and 802.11x settings to no avail.

I cannot beleive that this thread is now 3 years old and no Apple solution has been proposed. I'll be working with the mac for th next week (as I must), thankfully for video production. When I return from this job, if no solution is found, I'll be returning the MBP for a full diagnostic and if necessary, replacement.

Come on Apple, pull your act together! If I treated my clients this way I'd be out of a job!

I am suprized that this thread is 3 years old? Bought my MBP 13" last week and have troubles as well. First thought it was my router or some settings, or my internetprovider. Good that I just found this threat.

My iphone4 has no issues, nor had I issues with other laptops or my previous Imac. Will contact Apple today for a concrete solution, I cannot work like this. I need normal wireless connection, not be greatful everytime wireless works for some minutes. I should be able to expect that from a +€1100 laptop anno 2011?

You just made my point; there is nothing in the Wi-Fi protocol to allow you to "destabilize" a network, so if this occurred, it's the fault of your router's firrmware as nothing Apple does can or should cause the balance of your network to crash.

Crazy. I have owned Macbook Pros since they came out and have never had a problem. A month ago a spent $2500 on a new one and it kicks me off the network every five or so minutes. My wife has a cheap gateway with no problems. I still have my other Macbook Pro which continues to connect fine!! I don't get it, my new one was fresh out of the box!!! The OS is the same and everything.

Just thought I'd add my voice of frustration.

    Yo dudes,

I was also having the same problem, very annoying considering how much these computers cost. Anyway, very simple fix for this that I found on another forum here, http://michaelhyatt.com/fix-for-wireless-connection-problems-on-macbook-pro.html Don't bother reading the article, just scroll down to the comment by JP and switch off IPV6 in your network settings. I've no idea what this does or what an IPV6 is but it seems to have fixed the problem.

    Cheers

Lion does not have option to switch it off, only "Automatic", "Manual" and "Link Local". Set to "Link Local", will see the result.

Does not work, I think all those "suggestions" are just guessing and non-professional, they lead to huge forums with tons of useless information, "frustration" and discussions without any useful or working solution. Think only Apple can fix this, there should be some patch.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you. I returned my macbook pro 13" 2.3ghz i bought last week and just got an other (was doubting to take an air). Yesterday spoke 2 times with the support desk. Tried all the options, nothing happened

I have been busy for more than 2 hours tonight, still dealing with the same issues. I have to wait 5 minutes before a webpage comes up. Tried the options I tried with the support desk and the latest ones found here. No result. Good thing my iphone is having no issues, so i can send this message.

I'm going to pack it in again. I'm done with the macbook pro. I'll get an Air tomorrow.

That could be the same: same hardware, same software. As for me: I can't return Mac Book Pro, and do not want as other things work perfectly. This issue had started after few months of using.

Please post an update when you find out how the Air works. I'm going to have to return my MacBook Pro 2.3. I'd love to know if other Mac models will work or if I need to keep using my MBP that's a year old. Bummer, I really wanted the quad core.

I will let you know the results. Hopefully it is positive.

@ Alekseyk, 13inch MBA and MBP differ somewhat qua hardware. Software is the same indeed. I hope it will work. Wireless working is critical. Further I adore Apple's design, os and apps.

I think Apple has some design flaw, but since I repliyed in this thread there has been tons of different error scenarios so I think this ny know is a multitude of different problems.

the thread should be closed and new ones posted with more consistent errors and reproductions of those. This will not get any of us anywhere..

You're right. I was thinking about this too. I just found another thread on the same topic?: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2775868

Can we get the operator to start a new one with some strict rules? Below the configurations of the Macbook Pro and my router. You think this is useful?

    Router information:

    Brand/Type: Sweex SW005 (+/- 3 years old)

    Security: WEP 64/128

    Internet type: Cable

    Macbook Pro configuration:

    Macbook Pro1 (bought on 26 July 2011):

    Type: 2011; 13inch, 2.3ghz

Hardware configuration; standard as mentioned on website

    OS: 10.7 Lion

Options tried to fix it (with help of Mac support desk):

    - Hardware reset (Shift,CTRL, ALT, startup)

    - Remove of wireless config files created at first startup (location: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

    - Creation of new wireless location

    - (not really a fix solution, but a test on request of the support desk) connection to another wireless network

    Macbook Pro 2:

    Type: 2011; 13inch, 2.3ghz (got it yesterday, 3 August 2011)

Hardware configuration; standard as mentioned on website

    OS: 10.6.7 Snow Leopard

    Options tried to fix it:

    - Hardware reset (Shift,CTRL, ALT, startup)

    - Remove of wireless config files created at first startup (location: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

    - Creation of new wireless location

    - Turn off IPv6

None gave the desired results (see my previous posts).

After work, I'm going back to the shop again. Since I just got it, I don't feel like making it my problem. I never had troubles like this with other wireless devices connected to my router (examples of devices used in the past till now: Imac (2008), Macbook (+/-2008), HP6730b laptop, Dell laptop (+/- 6 years old), Acer desktop (5 years old) on Ubuntu 11.x, Iphone 3, multiple Iphone 4's).

For anyone new to this thread:

At present, there is no definitive solution to MBP connectivity issues. Get a long ethernet cable and take it easy.

Think twice about your next notebook computer (if wireless connectivity is something you want/need).

Stumbled on this thread looking for a solution fir a MB and MBP, thought I might add that I am experiencing the same problem on the iPad 2. After any of the devices have been left idle for a short time (ie 5-10 mins) they all require that wireless be switched off, then on again. Windows based devices have no issue. Router is D-Link DSL 2730B.
