From the Mac Mail menu bar click Mail / Preferences then select the General tab.
Click the pop up menu next to: Default email reader
You can send links from Safari from the Safari menu bar.
Click File / Mail Link to This Page

You can press Command-Shift-I to create an email in Mail with a link to the current URL in Safari. You can also just press Commad-I to create an email in Mail that contains everything on the current URL in the body of a new email in Mail.

However I already had Mail.app as the default email client set up, for some reason it did not work anymore. I came across the following link:
