If you use a Magic Mouse or laptop Touchpad and use the single finger slide from right to left, it will not reload. In fact, I liked the fact that it did reload pages in the past and was actually googling for a way to set it up again that way. I guess I'll have to play with the mouse settings. If I can get it to truly emulate the "Back" functio it may do what I want.

My experience is it does reload pages when using the Magic Mouse gesture. Either the back button or the Magic Mouse gesture reloads the page.
I can see how maybe some would prefer it.

Anybody got a solution for this yet?
It's extremely annoying - going back (via Delete, back button, or swiping) takes me to an old version of the page I was just on - typically 2-3 days old from the cache.

Same here. Driving me crazy.
Going back in Safari with magic mouse 1 finger swipe causes page to appear, then reload.

I've just started getting this behaviour. It used to work quite well but now when ever I swipe back wards with the magic mouse it re-loads the page. yet another Lion bug ?

Switch from one finger swipe to two finger swipe
ok, since i do not have a trackpad, i used my magic mouse. I changed my swipe between pages from one finger to two and my pages no longer re-loaded. Changing that option back to one finger swipe then set my pages to re-load our setting are slightly differnt, but were looking for the same outcome. Lood for a "Swipe between pages option. Then look for a drop down triangle. now change your swipe left or right with two fingers to one. this should re-load your pages now ;-)
