Yes, I see that, AND, now I find that I cannot even delete one of those drafts. Sometimes I could; sometimes I could not. Also, the very useful delete symbol can no longer be added to the toolbar via menu: View>Customize Toolbar...

The bin icon is there. It even dims and brightens again when clicked. But it does not delete the selected message. As far as I can tell, it does nothing at all.

I just noticed this:
1) Horizontally divide the "Drafts" window so can see titles, and below, the msgs.
2) In the "To" column, click on one of the undeletable msgs;
3) The full msg will show up under the bar (the bar with the small dot in the middle).
4) Move the mouse over the heading of the msg ("From":, for example).
5) A set of four gray icons will appear on the line between heading and body.
6) One of those gray icons is a trash bin.
7) Click that bin and the message will be deleted.
That's ok - keeps user from having to move the mouse up to the top of the window to click the trash bin (if it worked, and it does not). So Apple needs to fix this problem. And, I really liked having a red "delete" symbol that could be dragged into the toolbar (that's optional, of course -- just get the main delete icon working first.)

Darn - let me modify the previous message.
It worked once or twice.
Now, it does not work.
To be honest, I may have been deluded in the first place.
Just fooled into thinking it worked.
Anyway, all these "ghost" drafts are still there and I can't get rid of them.
Calling AppleCare on Monday.

I have a very similar problem - new drafts of the same message keep being saved as I work on it... Did you get a solution from AppleCare or elsewhere?

Been too busy to call AppleCare. No solution yet. I watch the messages (already sent) pile up in the Drafts box. I'll try to get to it soon.

This is a bug known to the engineering team and they are working on it for a future update.
Until then, they suggest disabling the save drafts on the server, so that it saves them locally for the time being.

Thanks for this info.
I think I fixed my problem simply by rebuilding all the "Drafts" mailboxes. Don't know why I didn't try it before, but the AppleCare guy suggested it. So, for the moment, no more ghost drafts.

How did you rebuild your Draft folder?

Get disconnected from e-mail server -> "Take All Accounts Offline". Delete saved draft. Get e-mail server connectivity back -> "Take All Account Online".
