I'm kind of interested in this as well. I have a mac mini with snow leopard server (no thunderbolt) but may buy a MBP in the future. That would give me the thunderbolt but I would still like to use the 27" with the mini as well. I'm wondering if that is even possible.

The Thunderbolt display will not work with older computers that do Not have the TB port. Even though the new Thunderbolt cable will physically fit into the mini-DisplayPort on the older 2010 MBP, the devices won't work/communicate.
But if you Did have a computer with Thunderbolt built-in (port), then the new TB display would connect via that one TB cable. Then, on the back of the display, it seems like there are many different ports (as like any multi-technology hub). It gives you (3) USB, a Firewire port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and another Thunderbolt port.

Here's a new article that basically covers and clears up all the new Thunderbolt display questions (same things I previously stated).
