Q: superdrive

I purchased my MacBook Pro in July a week before Lion was a available. I had no issues with my dvd superdrive. However, after installing Lion i have developed the following issue: My super drive will not recognize 80% of blank DVD's. It will spin the disc and after about a minute it will eject it. As well, when it does recognize a dvd (they are dvd-r) and i burn some files and then eject it all seems well. I can reinsert the newly burned dvd only to have it spin and spin and then be ejected without being recognized as anything was even inserted....

So: I just got off the phone with apple "care". After going through a few things like rebooting/resetting the guy tells me probably an "intermitant optical drive problem" and i need to take it to a certified apple repair store. This machine is just one month old and it was fine until the switch over to Lion.

Some $1500.00 dollars later (not to mention the iPad i bought at the same time and the iPod i bought last year--oh yeah.. the iPod crashed in the first few months and they had to replace it with a "refurbished' unit) and i have a machine that does not work properly.

Am i a happy apple customer? No....

Try booting in 32 mode for your old CD'S/ DVD-R's(*hold down 3&2 on you key board at start up.)

I've have found also it might just be the type of disc your using. I had memorex dvd-r's and the don't read or write at all on my Macbookpro running Lion OSX. Try using different CD/DVD-r's and testing it. Doesn't make a lot of sense but that seems to be the cause of the problem. After dealing with an apple rep. on the phone and at the store, this is what their going to tell you in the end...

If you ask me, they still need to come up with a fix though and FAST! An apple rep. actually told me their doing away with optical drives altogether so they probably don't care to much about this problem and are definitely not going to start replacing drives.

PS. I may have bought these particular DVD-R's that weren't working outside the country, so maybe thats why they only open and or burn in 32 bit mode???
