Ever since I have installed OS X Lion on last Thursday anytime my Mac's (iMac and Macbook Pro) go to sleep I have to manually connect my wireless settings back to my private network.  I never had to do this with Snow Leopard.  I 1st noticed it when I kept getting an error messages from time machine.  When I looked at my wireless icon it was grayed out.  When I check it no networks had a check beside them.  I ran the set up again but it still keeps happening.  It doesn't take long to connect to my network, but since I'm not accustomed to having to select my network each time I turn my cpu on or wake it from sleep I figured it must be something in Lion causing the issue.  Any suggestions?

OS X Lion, Mac OS X (10.7)

I'm having EXACTLY the same issue! It's become very annoying.

    Hello,

I have the same problem! On wake up, my MacBook Pro often shows a grayed out Wi-Fi icon and takes about 30 seconds to realize that it needs to reconnect, or even needs to be forced to connect manually... Appearantly Apple needed to change its Wi-Fi code for Lion, but I see no reason why since it worked flawlessly on Snow Leopard.

Hope there will be a hotfix for this soon!

    Cheers,

    oxxie

Me too!  Same issue ever since installing Lion last week.  I just got off the phone with Apple.  They say there's a 10.71 release due out soon...maybe as soon as this week that may (or may not) fix this.  I told them I'd let them know once I get the update.

Kind of a pain to have to run the Network Diagnostics to reconnect every so often.  Never had this with Leopard or Snow Leopard.

I am having the same issue also.  oxxie found my post and showed me I am not the only person with this issue.  I never had this issue prior to updating.  Hopefully Apple will fix this!

Same problem here however I'm not wireless the machine is dircetkly connected to the router. Most annoying. FIxed in seconds each time or simple a re-boot fixes.

So, last week Apple released the first update for Lion: 10.7.1! I was glad to see that the update included "improvement of the reliability of Wi-Fi connections". However, after applying the update, the problem as described above remains, sadly... What are your experiences with the 10.7.1 update, has it worked out for you?

    Cheers,

I am having the same problem, in a MacBook Unibody (late 2008) with 10.7.1, but I have noticed that it happends if you close the lid while making a time machine (in a time capsule) backup. The wi-fi does not connect (even manually) until the Time Machine disc is automatically ejected.

Note: I'm using a 5 Ghz wireless network, with the time capsule.

This was not happening in Snow Leopard.

When I first intalled Lion on my 2009 macbook I had similar problems. Now when the computer goes into sleep mode for a long period of time ( hours), I simply can't wake it up. The screen is black and there is no trackpad or keyboard function that will bring me back to the password page. Short term sleep seems to be no prob and connectivity is stable. Anyone having trouble like this?

No, I don't experience the additional problems you are describing... Sounds very frustrating though! Have you checked your battery condition? Its capacity decreases over time, maybe the battery is drained when you try to wake up your MacBook? You can check your battery condition in the System Information app: click System Report, choose Power in the Hardware section and look for Battery Information in the report on the right.

Alright, I had noticed myself that the Time Machine backups always fail when the Wi-Fi connection doesn't come up on wake up, but I never thought of it the other way around: could Time Machine backing up while putting the Mac to sleep actually cause the Wi-Fi connection to fail on wake up? We might be on to something here :-) Thanks ismasans, I'm going to test this theory for a bit!

In fact only occurs when making a backup, if not, it connects perfectly.

Thanks to you, oxxie, I'm waiting for your results.

Thanks for mentioning the 10.7.1 update.  I wasn't aware that it was out yet.  I just installed it and will see how it goes.  I see some people have noticed their WiFi connection drops possibly having something to do with their Time Machine backups.  I've noticed WiFi connectivity problems during the backups but I'm pretty sure I've noticed them when a backup isn't going also.

I did come across another discussion on this topic:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191630  where a DHCP setting change seemed to help some people.  When I checked my DHCP setting however, I found that mine was already set the way they describe.

I'll see how things go now that the 10.7.1 update is running on my MacBook Pro and will let you know what happens.

10.7.1 is still dropping the wifi.
