Hi all,

I cannot get the pictures off my iphone4. ITunes sync with iphone works fine but every time I connect the iphone I get a bubble message saying "device driver software was not successfully installed". So I cannot access the iphone in windows explorer. itunes sync with the iphone works fine.

I tried stopping and restarting apple mobile device services, reinstalled itunes but still same problem.

I have iPhone 4, windows 7 ultimate and all latest updates.

In device manager under portable devices, I have an entry called iphone with yellow exclamation mark when the phone is connected.

I have searched for a solution and found that many people have this issue but I haven't found any solution yet.

Thanks for the help

    Try doing it from an Admin account if you are not already.

    Also try disabling any security software you have running temporarily while you connect the device and it installs the driver.

    The "allmighty (sic) iPhone" and iTunes are both compatible with Windows7... I use them both with Win7 all the time.  Have you done a clean install of iTunes, i.e. uninstalled it, rebooted, and reinstalled it?

    I noticed that you have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  Make sure you are using the 64 bit version of iTunes.

    Hi there;

    I have exactly the same problem and have searched out MANY users with similar problems. Your symptoms are exactly the same as mine.

    I have tried everything that has been suggested on forums but to no avail.

    I have an iphone 3gs

    My cercumstances that have changed from when I could transfer photos are:

    • New HP 8440p laptop
    • New install of windows 7 pro N
    • 64 bit operating system
    • fresh instal itunes 10.5 64 bit
    • fresh updated iOS5.0

    I have repeatedly reinstalled, deteted in correct order, used different usb leads, resatr usb driver etc etc.

    This problem is the same for my girlfriends iphone 4

    I will be sooo happy when someone finally gets to the bottom of this...... Hope its not a political thing as you suggest but it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

    I am getting increasingly frustrated with this and hoped that when I read your first post I was going to find the answer at the bottom of the page. To my surprise this has gone ignored for over a month with no fix

    Please please help

    OK, the problem isn't the iPhone driver, it is your digital camera driver.  It is not installed with iTunes; Apple assumes that any standard Windows 7 already has a scanner/camera driver because it is built in to Windows 7.

    The iPhone registers with Windows as a standard digital camera, but only if there are photos in the Camera Roll. So that should explain all of the results you have seen.

    To fix it you need to fix the Windows scanner/camera driver. I have no idea how it got corrupted, but that's where the problem is.

    Thankyou for trying to help.

    I am still struggling with this as when I foolow the link above and others that have advised, I end up with a similar conclusion to the driver instal. They always seems to direct me to the device manufacturers driver. This I assume is installed with itunes??? I have reinstalled itunes countless times to no avail. As Lawrence Finch mentioned above it seems to be a windows recognition problem. Where do I re-install the windows 7 scanner / camera driver??

    Paulbc....Your link sends me in a circle to this point;

    "The wizard will ask you to select your scanner or camera from a list. If your scanner or camera isn't listed, you will need to obtain drivers for it, either from the manufacturer's website or from a disc provided by the manufacturer, and then click Have Disk when asked to choose your scanner or camera."

    Needless to say there is no iphone in the wizard lists which results in it directing me to apple for a driver and thus hence itunes??

    Can someone with much more computer literacy and pacients than I have please help us with a step by step on how to fix this

    Many thanks
