Since upgrading to Lion, I can no longer print to my HP LaserJet 4050n via ethernet connection (straight Cat5 connection - iMac-to-Printer). This is a network printer with only 3 ways to connect, Parallel, Serial & Ethernet - it has no USB port.
Original set upfor printer, prior to Lion, was as an IP printer, Protocol: LPD, Address: 184.108.40.206 & Print Using: HP LaserJet 4050 Series driver.
Printer was configured with a static IP address which was a required workaround under SL, after AppleTalk was dropped.
System Preferences>Network>Ethernet setting is set for IPv4 configure @ “Manual” with the IP address specified in the printer’s configuration printout (220.127.116.11). Status read as “Connected - Ethernet is currently active an has the IP address 18.104.22.168.” If I unplugged the cable, I get a “cable not connected” message in Network System Preferences, and replacing it returns it to “Connected” indication.
Attempts to print result in a “The printer is not responding” message.
Have tried all of the following, to no avail:
- Replaced Cat 5 cable.
- Attempted reconfiguring IPv4 using all methods (DHCP, DHCP w/manual address, BootP)
- Tried HP Jetdirect Socket & Internet Printing Protocols (JD Socket resulted in no printing & IP resulted in repeated pauses in print process)
- Tried alternate drivers for Generic PS Printer and Gutenberg version of HP 4050 Series - no change in reults
- Tried removing and replacing printer from printer list in Sys Pref’s (including removing printer from list, disconnecting cable, deleting Ethernet from Network preferences, shutting down Mac & Printer, restarting, reconnecting everything, reconfiguring Ethernet Preferences and re-adding the printer to the list.)
Any additional suggestions (short of replacing printer - it’s in perfect condition and I really can’t afford to replace it at this time)?
System is a 24” iMac(7,1), Core2 Duo, 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM
Printer is an HP LaserJet 5040n (Printer is still listed as supported by Apple) - Driver (Driver v10.4, PPD v17.5)
