I've gotten this error as well. I read that it may have something to do with spotlight, but I'm not certain. It has been reported to apple though. Report it yourself though for added incentive for someone with more knowledge on the subject to provide a more in depth explanation.

I got the metadata window in the first week of purchasing my MacBook Air.
As I had never seen this window before (and I've been using Macs since 1991) I actually spoke on the telephone to Apple Care. The conversation went nowhere. He kept explaining to me what keychain is.
I wanted to know:
what mwrite was,
which, if any, application it was connected with,
if the "metadata keychain" was the same as the normal keychain,
if it was a bug in the new OS, and
whether I should enter my password or not.
I was advised to enter my password. But I was unable to get any answers in relation to any of my other questions...

I have similar problems. I encounter the popup requesting for my password once every 15 mins. When I enter my system password, the prompt nudges, indicating that I have entered an incorrect password....

Me too, happens a lot, maybe 30 or so times a day at random intervals since going to 10.7.1. It's obviosly a bug so Apple please at least comment.

I'm having the same issue. Has anyone figured it out? It came up twice for me, I cancelled the first one and the second one disappeared without any action.

I've reported that issue to OS X Team. I've never ever had such kind of irritate mistakes with Mac. It is simply not admissible that Apple become like to Microsoft's developments.

The same problem is encounted today. I remembered that the spotlight suddenly re-indexed disk yesterday. What is the mdwrite? And when I enter keychain password, it prompts me for wrong password.

My Macbook Pro 17" (Mid 2010 i7 2.66G) has stopped doing this. The last 2 weeks or it hasn't happend at all. Fingers crossed, allthough I still want some sort of explanation. I also reported to Apple 3 weeks ago and so far no responce at all. I agree with MaximillionFV, Apple is behaving like Micro-plop, stop it at once Mr Cook ! Get thee to Phone Tech Support for a few days and listen to your customers.
