Q: HP photosmart all in one c310 printer

I recently bought a hp photosmart all in one printer and can't figure out how to save ink by printing in black and white when I do not need to print in color.

Could anyone please help me out?  I looked through the online manual but did not find an answer.  I gone to preferences and I just can't figure it out?

I would like to save money!

Thank you ahead of time..

When you choose to print, a print window opens.

In the Print window, under the heading "Presets", there is an option to print in B&W.

Select that, and you won't use any color ink.

    Japamac,

Thank you for your suggestions but when I went to the preset drop down I did not have an option to change it to black and white.  Do you have any further suggestions, please?

In the Print Dialog look for some settings like this...

    hpB&Wprest.jpg

Then save your Grayscale or B&W preset as here...

Thank you so much!!...  I usually can figure these things out quickly!!

Can I use this as a default when I print or do I have to specify this every time I print a document?

Good news, great to hear, not on a Mac with a Printer at the moment, but somewhere in there, there are options to "Use last profile/printer or such, or maybe " Save as Default"

I usually can figure these things out quickly!!

No shame there, they've turned "Printing" onto Rocket science much to my dismay!

Do you have this brand of printer?

    Yes, a HP309a.

That's how I knew that the optiuon was there.....

Did you get it to print B&W?

If so, the last profile setting should get you through the next print job.

I'll respond to ask you this; what version of OS X do you have?

There are 8 or so possibilities with differences based on version.

There are also possible exceptions due to print driver variations, so knowing the model of printer might be nice to help someone help you.
