I'm experiencing this same issue with many of my rules not working. However, I only have color coding mine and even those don't work dependably. They are IMAP accounts, but I don't have any move actions. I did notice that I right click on a single message and select "Apply Rules" the rule performs, but of course this is no solution.

I am in the exact same situation as you Matt.

I'm having similar issues.  When many of my old rules weren't working right, I went in and re-created all my Mail rules in Lion and some of them work and some don't.  A lot of my incoming messages are not being moved to where they should be and I've even created a couple of rules and 'applied' them to the message I created them from and those messages weren't even moved.  Really annoying!!!  I like a lot of the new Lion functionality, but this is really driving me nuts.

Same thing here- nor is my "every 5 minutes" auto checking getting my mail.

In the course of straightening out my gmail issues, I deleted all of my rules. I found when I started creating new ones, it took about 5 minutes for mail to actually apply them. That said, there's something wonky about the application of Rules in lion I think.

I've had to manually apply the rules to get them to work at all, and, like others have reported, the "check mail" timer doesn't seem to be functioning at anything under 30 minutes.

Most of my rules are applying -- except that they are not being applied to any of the IMAP bulk mail entries upon receipt!

Previously I had used POP, but when I recreated the mail accounts under Lion, the configuration process found the IMAP email server and used it -- and provided me with no way to override it back to POP -- which is OK, except in addition to the inbox and my defined mailboxes, it also created a set of IMAP 'mailbox folders' and certain mail, expecially bulk mail, always goes there without rules being applied.

If I open the bulk 'folder' I can see the emails, and roght-clicking and applying rules works and sends them to the expected mailbox, but the rules will not appy upon receipt.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Rules not working for me either.  Only trying to move but nothing.  Running Lion and mail 5.0.  Sending regularly hangs and rules dont work.  Not enjoying my switch to MAC yet!  Tried rules moving items to another iMap mailbox, didn't work, tried again with mailbox on my mac, still didn't work.

3 day old iMac 3.4GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB + 256GB SSD.  Trying to "keep it positive" with £2000 worth of computer that can't do email!

Please everyone that has this problem take the time to sign in and add to the thread then maybe it will get addressed sooner.

None of my mail rules work either.  I have my mail set up utilizing IMAP as well.  I ran a clean install of Lion, and had no rules, until today.  None of them work no matter what I use as matching criteria.

Same problems here, after upgrading to Lion

    - rules dont work

    - some messages go to the wrong mailbox, even when there is no rule for this action

    - Unfortunately, for me, there's also no 'moving' when there's only one action specified, as MileHiGuy66 mentions. (Thanks anyway, ofcourse!)

    -I use pop, no IMAP

I hope someone fixes this bug fast!

Please, don't. Apple does not monitor these discussions except to remove or edit abusive posts. These forums are a place where individual people can get help with specific problems. Lots of "me too" responses don't help anyone.

There is no fix forthcoming for Mail rules because they aren't broken. If you are having strange behaviour in Mail, the first thing to do is rebuild your mailboxes.

My mistake, brand new computer with newly set up mail doesn't work, of course there cannot be anything wrong with it. How silly of me.  When I lived in windows land that was called a bug. Excuse the sarcasm but I am a bit peeved to be having problems so early on with my new v expensive computer.  I wanted to move to mac for reliability but at the moment windows 7 looks good compared to my Lion experience. Got 2 other MACs in the family on snow leopard and have had no issues with them.

Bit disappointed to hear that if I swear apple will take action but not if I think there is a bug in their software. I really hope MAC OS Lion doesn't turn out to be their Windows XP.  So far it has been flaky and resource grabbing for me.  I guess I need to try and contact support directly to find out why it grabs 6GB of ram as wired when all that is running is system monitor. Takes 30 seconds to open launchpad not quite what I was hoping for from my 3.4GHz machine with 8GB ram. Have to restart to clear the problem ( hence the XP reference).

I appreciate Apple cannot jump every time someone says they have a problem but if lots of people are having the same issue then maybe there really is a problem they could fix.

Thanks for the suggestion about rebuilding mail boxes. I will find out how and try it. May have to reinstall mail anyway as that is the suggestion that is in another thread regarding mail hanging when sending.  Yet another issue that I think is a bug!

You can do that here, just not in this thread. This thread is specifically about mail rules in Lion and it is against the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use to hijack someone else's thread and to start polls. Would you want your question hijacked with something unrelated?

You are describing much more serious problems with your machine. Any mail problems are just another symptom. Please start your own question so that people who might know the answer will see it and help.

Rebuilt mail boxes.  What is the second thing to do?  No different after rebuilding mail boxes.

Etresoft will be of no help - same type of advice we used to get when we purchased our first PCs years ago when "customer service" could only tell us to either reboot or reinstall the OS.

You may have a first/preceding rule in which one of the actions is "stop evaluating rules."  I think the Apple News Rule has this pre-installed.  If this is the case, you might want to try removing this action to allow the the subsequent rules to be evaluated.  I tired this this and my nmailbox seems to be working just fine now.

If that doesn't help, I suggest rebooting and then reinstalling the OS.  I'm sure etresoft would agree.

    Good luck.
