I have three updates on the App Store which have been downloaded and  I have those versions on my computer, but the updates won't go away from the App Store. Aperture 3.1.3 was updated the day it came out, but won't go away. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing? Thanks.

if you have any external harddrives, try disconnecting them to see if it fixes the problem. If it does not fix the problem or you have no exteral harddrives connected, continue reading

move the application from the applications folder to the trash. do not empty the trash

launch the app store and navigate directly to the application page, not the purchased page

download it from there. does it still show the update?

Note: Since aperture is an installer (I think) you would want to delete the installer that runs, not the app

I have an external 500 GB portable and a 1.5 TB external connected to my MacBook at all times at home (the MB is also my desktop comuter). Shutting down and disconnecting them removed two of the updates from the App Store and it turns out the third was waiting to be installed. After installing that update, the update menu and my dock icon are empty. I would have never done this on my own - who'd a thunk it?. Thanks.

Update (no pun intended). When I reconnected my external HDs, everything was ok for a couple of hours and then, the App Store updates were back. They were the same two as earlier. I ejected both hard drives and restarted the computer. Updates were gone again. I reconnected the hard drives and updates are still gone, but don't know for how long. Curiouser and curiouser. Nuisance, but I can live with it.

Updates (already updated) appear again after connecting to the App Store. Looks like I will have to shut down, disconnect the external drives, restart, and then connect them again to get rid of the updates. I can do that, but what on the external's doesn't remember the updates?

Most likely, you have an old copy of the application on the external drive. Deleting it will fix it.

I had a similar problem, with deleted apps constantly showing up in updates, even after updating them! Most forums said, delete all instances of the app and reinstall (which did not work), other forums said I had a pirated Angry Birds (which I did not).

After giving up for a while, I signed out of the Mac App Store and signed back in, and VOILA, no more updates I've already deleted/updated. I hope this works for everyone else!

Turns out that was only a temporary fix!

There were applications that had ended up as hidden system files, once I deleted those they've disappeared even after restarting. Hope this helps someone!

I have a similar problem if someone could please help.  In my AppStore I show Angry Birds needs an update.  I have never purchased Angry Birds nor do I have an illegal copy.  When I click on Update, it tries to have me login with the previous owner of my computer's Apple ID.  (I don't know him).  I have deleted the plist file for the Appstore from my User Preferences Library and that didn't do anything.

This happens whether I am logged in to the app store or not.

Anyone know a way to get rid of this user and this obviously erroneous Update?  I have searched all throughout my computer for any files hidden or not and can't find anything.  Thanks in advance.

Oh, and I tried unplugging my external hard drive as well and that didn't do anything.

ryanpcmcquen: what files did you delete.  I know how to see hidden system files but which ones did you get rid of?
