I think you might be in luck. If you look at macsales (OWC) you'll see:
These are listed for mody mac mini and imacs of the generations you describe. What is on the small type on the actual cards you removed from the iMac?
Check OWC at the site above for your mini and what RAM wil fit.....
But what is physicaly written on the RAM you removed????

The sticks that came out of the iMac have the following written on them:
2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500S - 07 - 00 - F0
M471B5673DH1 - CF8 0853
They are Samsung chips

For anyone reading this with a similar question In can confirm that the iMac RAM does indeed fit in the Mini.
With a little help from a You Tube tutorial I've successfully installed said ex-iMac RAM successfully.
Nice for it not have been wasted.
