Q: Reel Numbers in Final Cut Server

Hi All,

Heres my current pickle. I've setup FCSrvr in my XSAN equipped environment. All the Workstations are connected on SAN. Noone is using the FCSrvr yet.

I want to add all the existing projects (all present on the SAN) as well as their media to FCS before I let the guys start working on it.

All the media was ingested from DV footage in FCP & as such the actual .mov files do not contain the very important Reel Number.

If I do a general scan of the device all the footage is ingested, however, naturally the Reel number and other capture metadata is not included.

Here's my question: What kind of scan can I set up that would:

- Create a production for each FCP Project file

- include FCP project file

- Tag the original movies with the Reel number & eventually other 'Log and Capture' Metadata?

Thanks y'all.

I never recommend doing it all at once, most of this can't be automated. I'd teach users how to do it, and have them do the work as they touch each FCP project file during the corse of a normal day.  This is how most database systems are handled when moving from one system to another.

Oh, you can select an FCP project file and make a production based on it, which automatically includes all associated clips.  Adding metadata will have to be clip by clip.
