Q: Can't sign into iTunes Store - endless loop. Help!!

I am running iTunes 10.4 under OS X 10.7. All of a sudden I can't sign into my iTunes Store account. I am entering the correct password, but it just keeps asking me for my Apple ID and password over and over again. I enter that information, and it keeps asking me again and again. This only just started happening - that was well after I upgraded to Lion, so I know that's not the reason.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do about it? How can I fix this?

I'm stuck in "the loop". Have signed out, signed back in, changed password, checked my aol password (because I tried BOTH ways to sign in to iTunes), and rebooted my computer.  Still doesn't work.  AAARGH!!!!

Actually, the previous solution no longer works. I tried signing into my account again - got the endless loop. Then I signed out of the store, quit iTunes, relaunched it, then signed back in. That worked, but I got the loop AGAIN when I tried to view my account info.

The problem is STILL going on. Signing out and back in, will not work. iTunes does the same thing every time: it just asks me for my account information, over and over again. Why is it doing this?!?

Just for kicks, I changed my AppleID password. The problem persists.

    New twist:

I created a new user account on my system. With that, I do NOT get the endless loop!! It's only with my main account that I get the loop.

    Now why would this happen?

(sorry I have to keep replying to myself, but the edit window is WAY too short)

I have found that I can't view ANY ACCOUNT AT ALL. Doesn't matter whose it is. NONE are viewable. (I can sign into the Store, just not actually *view* the account.) Each and every account I try to view, gives me the endless loop.

Now what is going on? Why would it do this for EVERY account?

Support people are no help at all. They just give me stock preprogrammed responses.

Never mind. I fixed the problem with a drastic measure: I erased my hard drive and reinstalled a clean copy of Lion (from a USB thumbdrive). I don't know what was on my drive before that made iTunes do the loop thing, but it's not happening anymore.

I am stuck in the same loop and it's maddening. I called and was told the only way they would halp is if I purchased a support package. I cannot believe that this or any company will only talk to you to help with a password problem, so that you can purchase their products, if you pay them. Are they crazy?! They want me to pay $ to get password support for the privilege of buying more products?

    What happens:

    - I can sign in to iTunes on the web and in the iTunes software using my password

    - Once signed in with my password, I cannot access my account or purchase a song -- I get stuck in a continuous loop where it keeps asking for my password.

I am afraid I don't have the skill or courage to erase my hard drive and start over. Also I no longer have the password I initially used to set up my account, because I got rid of it when I created a new password.

I suspect something in one of my devices mismatched, because I notice my old iphone apps are listed on my iTunes apps from my computer, but my ipad apps are not also listed there. And by the way, my iphone died so I don't have it any more anyway.

Can anyone give me advice that does not require erasing my hard drive or remembering my apple ID from years ago?

Same problem for me and it is getting worse. Updating apps does not work any more. "I have to logon to the iTunes Store first or use my AOL account.'  I don't have an AOL account...

What I noticed in iTunes, my iPhone is not connected, only my iPad and my Windows machine. For some reason my iPhone is not connected.

I'm also not able to set automatic downloads. I also get in an endless loop.

    Anyone a solution?

Solved my problem. I did a reset of my iPhone and configured it again. This solved the problem for me.

    Settings|Reset|Reset All Settings.

I'm having the same infinity loop problem with my new mac mini. All of our other Apple devices can sign in to our apple ID to purchase from iTunes. But my new main computer cannot. I have signed out of iTunes and signed back in, but still the same reoccurring dialog to sign into itunes to view account info. Not indication of anything I entered wrong, just the same dialog popping back up. Argh! So now my new, primary machine cannot make purchases from iTunes and I can find no solution on iTunes support. maddening.

    EDIT:

Re-entering my account info via my iPhone solved it. Thank you. Now my iTunes account accessible through my computer.

Really poor on Apple's part. Thinking seriously about cashing in my APPL stock while the getting's good.

I received this email from Apple and this corrected the problem for me...  I only had to reset the iTunes cache

    1) Open iTunes

    2) At the top menu, click File > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac)

    3) In the Preferences menu, click the Advanced tab

    4) In the Advanced menu, you should see a button that says "Reset Cache". Please click this button.

After clearing the caches as explained above, please check your Internet browser settings and be sure that any settings titled "automatically detect settings" are turned off (or the option not selected). After doing this, follow these steps to sign in to your account:

    1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. You can download the latest version free of charge from the Apple website:

I had the problem come back when I fired up iTunes for the first time on my 2012 iMac. I found a good fix here:
