Q: Powerbook 15" Display - What is special about it?

Dear Community,

after six years of loyal service, my Powerbook 15 " (1.67 GHz; it was the last one before the Intel processors have taken over) has got severe problems with its graphics, the colors and pixels are messed up and it is hard and tiresome to read or do any activities on the Powerbook anymore. I loved my Powerbook - besides all the other good reasons - particularly for its display. For some reason, my eyes dislike most flatscreens because flatscreens have always caused a feeling of being dazzled (don't worry, I checked with an eye specialist years ago, it is not a medical condition, just a personal disposition). Yet, with the display of the Powerbook, everything was fine and even after many hours of straight useage, my eyes felt totally okay so I didn't think about my "flatscreen sensitivity" anymore. Not that my Powerbook is broken and I needed to buy a new notebook, I wanted to have an anti-glare screen and unfortunately the cheapest version of an anti-glare notebook from Apple is quite expensive to me since I am a student. Thus, I bought a notebook from another manufacturer (it's a ThinkPad - yes I know, that's terrible when you're used to using a Mac!) and - well - my eye dazzling problem is back. Now I wonder, whether I could get a used MacBookPro which has a display similar to the one that was build in the Powerbook, if they have built in similar displays at all. Whenever there are some MacBookPros on display they have the glare display, so I don't know what the anti-glare displays are like.

Do you know what makes the Powerbook display so special and what distinguishes it from most TFT and flatscreen displays? Why could it be so comfortable to look at this display for hours but not on another display? Are these specific Powerbook displays also built in later MacBooks or MacBook Pros?

I'd be really glad if you could help me out!

Thank you very much!

Kind regards,

Chris
