Bizarre, isn't it - you can sort your found appointments by date by clicking on the 'Date' header, but when you select all, copy, and paste the appointments turn up in an apparently random order.
If this is important enough you could invest in BusyCal - £29 in the App Store (Snow Leopard required for the store), or $49 from their website (Leopard compatible): this has a list view which you can search (select 'Decade' at top left - if won't display everything but will group by time periods up to a decade) and you can copy out and get the results in the correct order. BusyCal is sort of 'iCal Pro' - it has many more facilities but uses the same database as iCal, and is also compatible with the new MobileMe calendar. There is a free trial from the website. (I have no connection with this firm.)

Thanks for the answer.
Though I am still curious about how iCal works on this subject more than getting recommendations for other calendar programs.

I have the same question...The data that is pasted is so random, I don't even know how I could modify the events to list in chronological order...

I have the same question. Does anyone have a solution? Seems silly to have this scrammbling of events!!
