I have written to Apple CEO Tim Cook about this issue. I didn't expect a response, to be honest but after just a few hours received a phone call from Apple staff in San Jose. I have been promised a further call later today.

aexis, I think there are two scenarios.

    1. The logic board is corrupt. Therefore some people told that they still have the problem with BSOD, even when they downgraded to Snow Leopard.

    2. It could be a software issue. The reasons told RichHolland some posts above.

MBP 2010 i5 - I too have the random BSOD but only when waking from sleep. Very frustrated.

So I took my MBP 2010 to the Apple Store today and asked them about the problem, they laughed and told me that they couldn't do anything. Sure, they could try another logic board but this wasn't going to help.

The only thing I could do is wait...

I’ve just discovered that when I get the black screen if I move the display (as if I was going to shut down the computer) I get the light back on the display.

    I’m using a white MacBook (Early 2009), NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB, Lion 10.7.1.

Pomar, your problem sounds like a mechanical issue with the screen cable, unrelated to the Lion issue. Though the problem may have happened since you installed Lion, it's probably coincidental. Nobody else has reported that moving the screen changes anything.

Sometimes (not usually) when my 2010 MacBook Pro appears to have the Black Screen of Death if I close my MBP, wait for the white LED to start cycling like it's asleap, then open it up again the screen lights up and I can use my computer at least long enough to save and quit things (eventually it will get the spiining beachball on every app).

Other times things seem to be going well and all of a sudden half or none of my apps can connect to the Internet. If I can shut off WiFi my computer won't hang but sometimes trying to shut down WiFi causes the SBBoD to appear on every app. If I can shut off WiFi usually I can wait 30 seconds and reenable it and often all is OK.

These quirks never happened before Lion, and for my computer almost never happen unless the computer has been allowed to go to sleep first. If it never sleeps Aperture, etc. all work pretty normally with a rare hang (once or twice a week) similar to when I was using Snow Leopard.

I'm pleased to report that after writing to Apple CEO Tim Cook I received calls from Apple staff in San Jose and then in Singapore - I'm based in Bangkok. I have been promised either a free replacement, pre-tested logic board or a replacement computer for my out-of-warranty mid-2010 MacBook Pro. I am assured that this will solve my BSOD problems.

I have a Macbook pro 2.66 GHz i7 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.. and know nothing about computers. However, after reading many posts on this site, I feel pretty well educated.  I have the "BSOD" as you all put it and it is completely random, but I have found I can trigger it by clicking on the second page of effects in photobooth and you all helped me figure out..

I am out of warranty... so that's a problem. but I never had this problem before my lion upgrade. In fact, I had no problems.

The problem is not fixable by me, and applecare has walked me through numerious reinstalls and partition creations and still the persistent BSOD never sleeps, or always sleeps, however you wanna put it lol...

anyway, i need a solution. any ideas? you guys seem to have it more figured out than the geniuses... they all, like you all have mentioned, have "never heard of the problem" . this is fine, I doesnt bother me that they've "never heard of it" cuz they have now from all of us.

aiiiight. well im expected a call back from applecare and Im going to tell him the BSOD hasnt stopped even after the new partition and install.

any suggestions on what to say to applecare to convince them to do whatever they need (new logic board possibly?) to fix my computer free of charge with it being out of warranty?

THANKS GUYS. btw i shld email tim cook too lol

Well I picked up my MacBook Pro from the Apple Store again yesterday.  This time they ACTUALLY replaced my logic board.  So far everything is working perfectly!  I have not had any BSOD's or any other problems.  It has only been 1 day so far but before the replacement logic board I could get a BSOD within 5-10 minutes of turning on the laptop.   So it seems like the issue has been fixed for me and it seems as if the problem really is hardware related and can be fixed with a raplacement logic board!

Good luck to everyone else with this problem and I would suggest that you really fight to get a (free) replacement logic board from Apple.

Also just as a side note, when the Apple Store ran their "intensive" hardware tests on my MacBook Pro with the original logic board, they were not able to find anything wrong with it.  But the replacement fixed it for me so obviously their hardware tests are not able to detect the problem.

Last Friday i went to apple store and talk about the problem with my macbook pro Intel Core i7  / NVIDIA GT330M

graphics issue and i was surprise what the technician said to me about the replasing the logic board .

He said that "replaced parts install to systems is not new parts" .. not brand new ( repared parts )

I think thats why most of guys replaced  logic board didnt fix the problem , It shoud be brand new
