I'm having the weirdest problem ever.  As of this morning, I cannot send e-mail form from one of my e-mail accounts on my brand new 13" Macbook Pro.

I bought it yesterday, was sending and receiving but at some point around 11am-ish, I started having problems and now it just doesn't send.  Now here comes the weird part...

1. I can send from other e-mail accounts

2. I can send from Outlook (but not, Sparrow nor Postbox)

3. I can send when I connect to my 3G USB stick

4. I can send from my other 13" Macbook Pro (2009) using which is on OS X Lion

The problem is my work e-mail, on this new Macbook Pro, on my install of as of 11am this morning, it had been working over the last 12 hours before this happened.

I've seen 100s of threads with no solution, any help is greatly appreciated, I do NOT want to use Outlook., Mac OS X (10.7.1), This is NOT an ISP problem.

I have resolved the issue on my machine.

My computer's name was complex ( Mike's Computer (2) ) and this appeared to result in a host name that was not translatable. I went to the Preferences -> Sharing and then selected the Edit button to change the host name. I changed the host name to MikesComputer and then rebooted the machine.

Apple mail is now sending the EHLO response with a host of mikescomputer.home vs. previously the incorrect 'unknown-00:17:XX:XX:XX:10.home' - which is technically invalid but accepted by some smtp servers.

A clip from the log file now look as follow ...

    READ Nov 28 22:09:57.744 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNone] -- host:XXX -- port:587 -- socket:0x11796cd20 -- thread:0x11a0855f0

    220 ESMTP Exim 4.71 - "ATLAS SMTP Service" Wed, 28 Nov 2012 22:09:57 +0000

    WROTE Nov 28 22:09:57.795 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNone] -- host:XXX -- port:25 -- socket:0x118567c30 -- thread:0x11842a390

    EHLO mikescomputer.home

1 - I have replaced some of the specific identifying information with XXX

2 - The Invalid address appears to be 'unkown-[Your Ethernet card's MAC address].home'
