My LaCie appears to be functioning properly because the CSI light comes on when I turn on my Mini. I need more assurace than a blue light. How can I confirm that the LaCie actually contains copies of my Mini?

Have you copied anything to the external HD?

Does it mount on the desktop?

Click on the icon - it'll be LaCie' s logo if you haven't reformatted it with disk utility, if you have it'll probably be an icon for a Firewire or USB drive with the name under it that you gave it - and open it.  What you've copied should be there.

If you are aren't seeing the icon on your desktop, go to Finder prefs, general and click the box to show HDs on the desktop.  It should show up.

Click the icon and your copied data should show up - just like on your internal HD.

Found and reviewed LaCie and it's fine. Thank you!

You are entirely welcome - though I don't know if I was helpful or not in solving your problem.

Not quite sure what you mean by "reviewed LaCie" - but glad to learn that all is fine.

    My Dear Mrs H

On the assumption that you have zillions of these to read, I find that I must apologize for my regretful decision to sacrifice common courtesy for brevity.

I am sorry. I owe my success only to you. Please allow me to explain.

"Found and reviewed" means, when simply put, that I fell upon your instructions with a treasure hunter's enthusiasm, and made my way henceforth to the promised trove. Having found it, and with only a trifle of the usual adventures along the way, I set about taking inventory and was greatly relieved to find that Dear LaCie has indeed been presiding, with all diligence, over the regular stockpiling of all my files, just as she had promised.

Your clear, concise, and encouraging instructions have lifted a suspicious loathing from my mind and shown me the way to accomplish what I could not do without you.

What do you think? Too much?

    Dear WW,

So I did give you a correct answer!

Lovely writing above. So lovely, in fact, that I quoted the whole thing to read it again.

If your problem is truly solved, why not mark this thread correct and close it so no one else will try to solve the problem again for you.

One further note, are you using SuperDuper for your backups?  A wonderful app which I highly recommend.

    Mrs H

PS "Too much", not at all - I appreciated your reply.  And, btw, I don't read a zillion of these, just the ones that catch my eye and for which I think I may be of some help.

This is my first post experience. Thank you for the "Correct Answer" prompt. I  would never have thought of it, having not read the Byzantine instructions. Does marking the Correct Answer automatically close the issue, or is there something else I should do?

SuperDuper? Will it return me to my former luster and beauty? LaCie is working. The only thing I can't do is draw a simple schematic. Otherwise, I seem to have more bells than I can whistle at on this, the most forgiving of computers.

I am gratified to know that you accepted my silly reply in the proper spirit. See? Levity is lighter than gravity.

    W2,

Thanks for the points they are always appreciated, but we are not supposed ask for them (though I know new folks often don't have a clue.)  By marking something as correct, the thread now sports a green check so others will know the problem is solved.

SuperDuper for $29 is the best deal out there.  If you have luster and beauty it will duplicate it.

We've been using it for years.  And the designer is wonderfully helpful if you contact him with specific questions.
