How old is the router? Has it the latest firmware?

it seems that i have changed the routers channel to 1 and have watched 2 full-length videos without problem.

there was a slight drop when trying to load 2 pages at once, but so far so good. will reply by the end of the week to see if problem still exists

the problem continues. i notice it gets worse on certain sites like Yahoo! news when i try to send comments or rate them. it seems like certain stuff websites send crashes the broadband link. this only happens wirelessly, ethernet has no problem, but i dont want to continue being restricted by a cable. any ideas?

NO NEW ROUTER. this problem need to be fixed on the one i have. sig, its people with responses like yours that dont help with the situation at all. i should not have to buy a new router just because my Macbook is stalling it, because it works perfectly with other computers. its not the router. its the Mac.

This wireless connectivity Apple->2WIRE issue has been around for years. If you try to contact AT&T to solve the problem, they barrage you with basic troubleshooting suggestions that never really fix the problem. I'm sure AT&T has an exclusive contract w/ 2wire, so 2wire truley holds the responsibility for fixing the issue ... though they never have. I'm sure the number of Mac users is a tiny fraction compared to the amount of their Windows customers. Probably not worth their time or money to reasearch & develop a working remmedy. AT&T claims to be unaware of the issue & instead run you in cirlces with no resolution. (So extremely, that they've actually suggested that my 2Wire Gateway was defective. Sent replacement, no fix. Sent tech to home. Suggested rewiring phone lines in home! Still have Mac->2Wire connectivity problem!!!) I've since pursuaded AT&T to reimburse me for the purchase of an Airport Express ($99) to add on to my network to be able to reliably use my Apple wireless computers & devices. They did in the form of reductions to by bill for a few months to add up to the amount of the Airport Express. My problem was solved! ....though it ***** that extra hardware is required & AT&T denies knowledge of this half-decade-long known problem. I pretty much have two wireless networks running now, my 2WIRExxx & the one broadcasting from my Airport Express. While I never intended on connecting back to the 2Wire signal, I have been keeping my eye on forum & discussion boards over the years to see if anyone ever comes up with a fix for this mystery. I just found a thread from May '11 with an alleged fix. I tried it &, low & behold, It works! I've been logged onto my 2Wire signal with my MacBook Pro & iPad for two days now with no drops at all. I think this one's a winner! Try it out. I've copied & pasted the directions here:

go into the wireless settings of the modem http://192.168.0.254

go to home network -> wireless settings

    enter in router password

go down to additional settings -> wireless mode -> CHANGE to "b"

    click save

go to home network -> advanced settings

go to private network -> click on 172.16.0.0

    click save

FYI WE ARE WORKING ON IT.  WILL LET YOU KNOW FIX / PATCH. ASAP....  AND IT IS AN ISSUE WITH MAC AND 2WIRE.  A MOTOROLA 3347 ROUTER INSTALLED WILL FIX THE ISSUE BUT THERE ARE SO MANY 2WIRE ROUTERS OUT THERE THAT IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED.  MORE SO THAN NOT IT SEEMS TO BE MAC AND PC ON SAME NETWORK AND WILL CAUSE YOU TO DROP SYNCH .  WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT FIX IS NEXT WEEK IF ANYONE IS STILL IN NEED OF HELP.

    DSL TECH.

I've been running smoothly for about a month now with no disconnections. The only issue is that my signal from the 2WIRE modem is not as strong as the signal that was coming from my Airport Express when I had it set up. Still, not a single disconnect. Also remember,  ....once you make these changes to the 2WIRE modem, to make any future setting changes you would have to log into http://172.16.0.1 instead of the previous address (http://192.168.0.254).

I have the 3800HGV-B and to change the 2nd setting I had to goto:

SETTINGS > LAN > DHCP > DHCP Network Range >

    172.16.0.0 / 255.255.0.0

Believe this is the correct method as I could not find the path anywhere:

"go to home network -> advanced settings

go to private network -> click on 172.16.0.0"

If I am wrong, please correct me... could not find "private network" anywhere...

Also what about the "wireless channel" does this setting matter heard different opinions

Thanks for the info, turned off static and now regular settings with adjusred 2wire settings.. so far so good...

go down to additional settings -> wireless mode -> CHANGE to "b"

the above wireless mode change 802.11b/g

by performing this change my internet speed dropped by half...

Think I am going to buy an Airport express/extreme to see if there is a difference
