For those folks who have received refunds: is FCPX etc. still running on your system?  I uninstalled my copy prior to requesting and getting a refund.  However, it still shows up in my App Store as purchased and installable.  I emailed Apple to question this and was told that, "once a purchase is made it will stay there.  Please ignore it."  I can't believe that Apple would issue refunds and still let people redownload and/or keep the software.  Has anyone else seen this?

Apple is first and foremost a hardware company, the software is generally designed to form an upgrade path to newer more powerful hardware. This is why Apple keeps lowering their price on the "Pro Line" of software.

Logic Audio which originally sold for $1K and was hardware protected by a USB key. After being purchased by Apple the price was cut in half (and going to reduced further) and everything plus the kitchen sync was thrown in. The real twist of the knife is.. the Apple forums don't seem to care that about 1/2 the new users are obviously using pirated copies and barely know what the program is used for much less know how to use it. What once was a pro community is now kiddieland.

So, it's not surprising you still have use of FCPX, it will eventually sell more hardware.

    distressing... yes.

I AM elitist... been using Logic since version 2.5, MIDI only. Switched to Logic Audio at 3.5. (It's currently 9.1.4)

Have invested quite a chunk of money in the program.

One of the meanings of elite:   b. The best or most skilled members of a group

Proof of piracy... all you have to do is ask, people aren't shy these days.

It's very easy to tell, new user signs on the Forum, they have Logic audio and  $10,000 worth of third party virtual instruments and plugins... and they don't know how to use any of it but want step-by-step instructions on how to perform basic steps that are in the first few pages of online help. (that anyone can access).

That's what I mean by kiddieland.

Apple doesn't bother to delete posts even after users admit to using pirated copies.

And to top it all off, Apple has never been able to supply professional support for Logic, for a couple of years no one there even knew how to use the program, I have clients that know more than support did.. I'm wondering what Logic X is going to look like.

I think Apple would like to say bye-bye to the pro community, we're too demanding, too whiny and we want software that works as advertised with at least some backwards capability.

I wanted to comment on the App Store about FCPX but it is restricted to those who have purchased the app. After reading the reviews and comments on the App Store and here, why in the world would I want to buy it? I really feel bad about the folks who bought the program without any of the user feedback we have now.

I have used the Mac platform for over 10 years now, but the last few years...I don't know, things just seem to be getting very flaky. It started with iMovie when it moved from iMovie HD. Suddenly it was dumbed down. I still have iMovie HD on my system, although I use iMovie 9 for super-simple projects. I hate to say this, but I've been using Sony Vegas lately...on Windows.

I wanted to reply on the App Store to ask: why are there so many 5 stars rated for FCPX? I can't help but notice the weight of the arguments slamming FCPX to be more valid than the 5-stars. I haven't seen any 5-stars that can say anything conclusive except "nice colors".

As a user who wanted to be able to afford FCP, the price is attractive, but no I don't feel like throwing $300 at something that is basically iMovie Pro.

Just got this message from apple after emailing them this morning (original email below)

    Dear Matt,

Asim here with iTunes Support. I understand that you're having trouble with the version of Final Cut Pro that you recently purchased. I can see why that may be of some concern. That's something I can definitely help you out with.

I'm sorry to hear that the application you recently purchased is not functioning as expected. In five to seven business days, a credit of $199.99 UK should be posted to the credit card that appears on the receipt for that purchase.

I hope this resolves your issue. Please don't hesitate to email us back if you have any future questions or concerns.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to assist you. You may receive an AppleCare survey email; any feedback you provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Asim

    Original Email:

Specific request: I have a purchase or billing question

Item title: Final Cut Pro x

    Order number:

Details: I purchased final cut pro x for my new mac, expecting to get a professional editing software. I installed it and immediate realised it was not the program i had intended on buying as a professional editor (i was looking for the older final cut pro 7 i later realised).

I've given the new software a fair chance, but have come to the conclusion that it is definitely not the software i had intended on buying, and that it is not suitable for my needs. In actual fact, it could potentially lose me clients.

I would like to discuss a refund on this software...

Where do you apply for refunds? I have recently purchased AVplayer HD and it did not live up to my expectations at all. I'd like my money back. Thank you.

FYI, I think you are in for a battle, they told me explicitly that my refund for FCP X was a one time very special exemption. Apple felt a tremendous amount of pressure from a large and vocal community of Final Cut Pro users and had to do the right thing by making refunds. I think I read somewhere in a TOS that they will refund apps only if they don't work, not because you don't like it. So you need to make the case that the app didn't do what it was supposed to do and give specific examples.
