Big thank you, Noondaywitch.   Because my skills are limited it may take a while for me to come to grips with your research ... but I will.

But for the moment, you mention 000000 and call it black.    I'm sure it is black but in one of my earlier posts I linked that numerical sequence of numbers with liqorish (as mentioned in crayons palette) and had a feeling I could detect a slight difference.   Is the name liqorish a case of paint manufacturer's imagination?   I suspect the difference I detected was due to the font being thicker and therefore more clear.

Which raises an alternate question.   Are the fonts as manipulable and transferable as the colours seem to be?

    More thanks for your patience.

"Are the fonts as manipulable and transferable as the colours seem to be?"

To some extent. As you can see the changes for the links didn't work in some frames so there's a lot dependent on the way the website's been coded.

As for crayons; liquorice = black, snow = white!

Btw, no need to worry about websafe colours; they're not as relevant as they were, but in this case your changes are only happening in your browser - no other computer needs to be able to view them.

Bedtime now (actually well past) but I'll have a look at font weights and stuff in a spare moment tomorrow.

Meanwhile, play around with the colours and see how you get on. You can't damage anything and you only have to return the style sheet pref to 'non selected' to get back to normal.

    Hi Noondaywitch.

Am making some progress (though not a lot) as I cannot get past the drop down screen.   Let me explain where I am.

Created new Textedit file.  ( .css.rtf note}   Saved two copies; one to desk top and one to Finder.

Progress to drop down for style sheets.

    Select other.

New screen appears  (my finders screen) headed advanced ... but the all important style sheet icon is greyed out and therefore inoperable.

help!    Told you I had limited skills.

    Thanks, as ever.

File extension is crucial; it must filename.css  Nothing after the css!

Just rename the file - highlight it and press return, then ⌘A to select all of it, and rename. Just one dot and css, no other stuff.

Btw; I'll be around for brief periods tomorrow, but I go into hospital for 5 days of tests on Sunday, so I won't be around for about a week.

Important things first.   Wishing you well for Sunday and onwards; I do hope your hospital tests come up to show nothing serious.

Okay.   Have adjusted the files and moved on.   The files have now changed to the content below.

    {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\cocoartf1038\cocoasubrtf360
    {\fonttbl\f0\fnil\fcharset0 LucidaGrande;}
    {\colortbl;\red255\green255\blue255;\red38\green38\blue38;}
    \paperw11900\paperh16840\margl1440\margr1440\vieww10500\viewh10200\viewkind0
    \deftab720
    \pard\pardeftab720\ql\qnatural

    \f0\fs28 \cf2 * \{ color: #600000 !important;\'a0 \}\
    a:link, a:visited \{\
    \'a0\'a0\'a0 color: #355491 !important;\
    \'a0\'a0\'a0 text-decoration: none;\
    \'a0\'a0\'a0 \}\
    a:hover, a:focus \{\
    \'a0\'a0\'a0 color: #4262a1 !important;\
    \'a0\'a0\'a0 text-decoration: underline;\
    \'a0\'a0\'a0 \}\
    a:active \{ text-decoration: none; \}}

I'm probably misunderstanding but I got the feeling from your post that this content would be in the red colour you set up.

    Any thoughts?

Incidentally, if this isn't sorted I am happy to sit back and wait for you to announce you are 'back in business'.   Time is not the essence.

    Good luck.

    Hi again

in textedit, use the Format - Make Plain Text menu command, then save as a .css

otherwise you have all the rich text formatting information in addition to the styles that you want - and Safari can't fathom which is which.

    Thanks Andy. Just seen this.

I cheat and use TextWrangler, so I forgot TE would default to rtf.

Thanks for your concern, seventy one; tests are to to see if I'm up to a lung transplant.

    Hello Andy (again)

Seems like you are keeping a watching brief on this one.   Lets hope Noondaywitch shows up later this week with good news.

I'm still experimenting.    In "N's" absense, hope you don't mind if I direct any new queations at you.

    Thanks, as ever.

Thanks to both of you for your concern.

Still a few test results to come, and the final verdict as to whether I go on the transplant list won't be made until mid November.

Meanwhile I'm playing catch-up around the house and trying to get my partner's iMac up to date with security and backups, so not spending much time in here.

Have you had any success with the style sheet so far, seventy one?

    Hello Noondaywitch,

Glad to see you are sounding so positive; will be thinking of you as November approaches.

No, no luck yet with the style sheet but that's largely because I too have been otherwise engaged and have had to spend more time than I wanted with a project.

I will try to have another look at the style sheet over the weekend.

    Hello Noondaywitch and Andy Ball,

Having spent ages messing around with color palette in Pages, I have to admit the differential between black and various shades of dark red is not sufficiently distinct to make a real difference.    I had hoped,

but it looks like a visit to the optician might be the right path to follow at this stage.

Incidentally, I concentrated on the pages colour palette because I had difficulty in conjuring up the style sheet ... as I said earlier, I'm not the brightest when it comes to anything more than basic instructions and even the reference to .css threw me.

Big thank you all the same; I'll watch out for you, Noondaywitch.
