No, unless you have the family pack version.

I think your license permits installation on one desktop and one laptop as long as you own both comptuers.

Thanks for your response.
On my install disk there are two stickers with the same serial number. I'm assuming that means I can install it twice. I have FCE installed on my laptop. If my boyfriend technically owns our desktop does this mean I cannot install it on our desktop computer?

The FCE license permits you to install FCE on 1 Mac desktop + 1 Mac laptop provided you own and use both computers. You are not permitted to install on 2 laptops or 2 desktops.
From the FCE license:
2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
A. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you.
If you are not the owner of the second Mac then an additional license is required for it.
The fact that there are 2 stickers means nothing. It's just 2 stickers. The intent was for you to put them in different places so that you hopefully don't lose both stickers.

There is no such thing as a Final Cut Express family pack version. Never was.

Is it possible to buy another license without paying for the software again in it's entirety?
Currently Being ModeratedSep 22, 2011 8:16 AM (in response to AnnaKG)
No. There is no special deal for multiple licenses. Never was. In addition, FCE was discontinued a few months ago when Final Cut Pro X was released. But FCPX is a totally different app.
The only copies of FCE you are going to find anymore will be if a retailer still has some in stock (as of today, B&H Photo still have it) ... or perhaps a new or used copy on on eBay.

So if you're buying used software I'm assuming it has been uninstalled and then you would re-install it using the same serial number, correct?
Could I uninstall FCE on my laptop and re-install it on the desktop?

Yes, you could uninstall FCE from your laptop and install it on your boyfriend's desktop. As long as you stay within the terms of the license.
Yes, you do need to exercise caution if you are buying used software. A good seller will have uninstalled the application from his/her computer and will provide you with the installation disk & the serial number to go with it.
