You're welcome, W.W.
I am surpriseed if your iSight shows in FaceTime's "Microphone" menu section. If it does show there, I would think that your iSight's mic should work with your FaceTime.
(As noted in my earlier post: "Your available choices may be different depending on your system configuration.")
If none of the available mics you have work or sound good enough for your needs, you will need to consider a different mic when you want to use the current version of the FaceTime app.
I have successfully tested my Logitech USB Desktop Microphone with my FaceTime. As shown in the image below, it shows in FaceTime's "Microphone" section as "AK5370":
These mics are available for less than $30 USD from many suppliers, including the Apple Store:

For this money, it is obviously not studio quality, but I have long used this desktop mic for good quality iMovie voiceovers. Part of the mic's sound improvement may result from the ability to position farther from computer fans and drive noises than built-in mics. The Logitech also offers good off-axis noise rejection. Unless you need a more expensive mic that offers higher quality audio, the Logitech USB mic may be worth considering.
