Just recently I have noticed that my iPad 2 is emitting a fairly loud chirping noise.  Sounds like a bird or crickett.  The sound is emitted in two discreet bursts.  You can easily hear it across a fair sized room.  It is unlike the high chirping noise I have read about, and heard, on the iphone which is a more prolonged single high pitched noise.  I know the noise occurs when the iPad is not plugged in to its AC adaptor but is sufficiently charged.  It may also occur when plugged in.  Not sure.  The noise is very internmittent and is not predictable.  For example... it does not happen everytime I use a certain app or enter my password.

Maybe it's due to a new email, notification or calendar event?  Check Settings > Sounds.

Go to Settings>Sounds>Calendar Alerts - turn the volume all the way up on the slider bar and then toggle calendar alerts on and off and see if that is the sound.

Sorry - Settings>General>Sounds>Calendar Alerts. No editing possible on this site when using the iPad is just unbelievable to me but oh well ....

What made me think it may be the calendar alert was the "two discreet bursts" that you mentioned. The calendar app repeats the sound. Plus said that you thought all alert sounds were a "ping". Anyway, sorry that wasn't it.

    Go Steelers!

    Go Cowboys!

Might be an interesting NFC East this year.

I don't have the 3G version. I have WiFi only. You do bring up an interesting point. Perhaps that is the reason you get the chirping sound. But someone with a 3G would have to confirm.

We all hate the inability to edit on this site with the iPad. It makes no sense to me. Apple did not build/design this forum site. It is the product of Jive Software (?) or something like that. One would think that they would make sure that this forum is compatible and works fully when using the iPad.

Any time you type the ampersand in a post on this site using the iPad, that symbol shows up. You are doing nothing wrong.

But if you want to get AT&T, just type it without the ampersand, as in a t t, sans spaces of course.

& if you want the ampersand just by itself, that works as well, it seems.

Until, of course, you want someone else to see it, at which point it gets all hashed. I'm beginning to think this will never be fixed ...
