Works like a charm. 188.8.131.52 and 184.108.40.206 are both public DNS servers hosted by Google. So apple's services may not be able to be resolved by another DNS server. What's strange is after changing the DNS settings back to my internal router it still works. And my iPhone 4 never had this issue. Bug fix anyone???

grrr. still can't login facetime thru my ipad2. tried changing dns to 220.127.116.11 and 18.104.22.168. still did not work. my internet connection also did not work which forced me to input back my original dns. any other suggestions?

hi k-f-null, soem diagnostics may be in order.. try these..... the issue might be concerned with lack of access to certain apple resources for Facetime. Try the following using
- your default DNS from your ISP and then
- again with Googles DNS at 22.214.171.124. as has bene suggested.
- if you have a mac, does facetime work on that MAC when it is connected to the same network (subnet) as your iPAD?
- if your iPAD2 has 3G capability, does facetime work in 3G mode?
- while on your network (subnet) can your MAC or other access these domains using the domain names? (use nslookup command or browser to determine if the RESOLVE from your mac or other). Do the same on your iPAD is you have an ssh.app or try and use the safari browser. Just interested to see if the names resolve or they DONT resolve using your DNS's (yours or Googles) .
report back if u can

Hi I've reached this thread through googling my error.
I have just got an ipad2, not the 3g type. Should i be able to get on facetime with this? I want to be able to videocall my sister-in-law who has an iphone4. She has entered my email address and it says "Connecting" when she tries, but nothing happens my end. Same vice versa when I've entered her phone number.
I've read the thread about DNS settings, but don't know where to find them to try changing them.
I'm not sure either what it'll look like when it is working, but I don't seem to have many options when I open Facetime - just me in the camera....

You can follow the link below, in order to see how to change the DNS settings. It is very easy to do it.

I had no one with which to use Facetime until the iPhone 4s came out. Thank you so much for the help as my new phone works great with another 4s, but my iPad2 didn't work at all nor did my MacPro. Now it all works together. As a reformed PC geek, I am surprised that Apple isn't as simple as so many PC people purport the devices to be.
The 8's have saved the day and a lot of frustration!

I cannot get iPad2 to work with my new iPhone 4 (not 4S) - there is a connection then it falls out.
Do I change the DNS on both applications to be 8.8. etc?
Do I have to keep a note of the original DNS or will everything work as normal on 8.8. etc
