Q: ejecting all disks

Dear Friends,

My Powerbook G4 17" is suddenly ejecting all disks. I've tried cleaning. It takes them in spins for awhile and then ejects.  Any ideas? Thanks.

PS. Could it  be a firmware problem?

Before resorting to extreme measures, get a drive cleaning disk. They are usualy US$5 - 15 and are available at most electronics stores and office supply centers that carry computer gear.

Slot-load drives get dirty on desktops and filthy on notebooks, so there is a good chance that a simple cleaning will restore function. Much cheaper than a new drive.

A friend's Mac notebook started having trouble with the optical drive and the local Apple ASP told him the drive was bad and would cost US$140 parts and labor to replace. I loaned him my cleaning disk and the drive is again at 100 percent function.

This worked for some users with the same problem.

    1. Open Disk Utilites

    2. Click on your Hard drive/partition

    3. Click on the *Repair Disk Permissions* button

    Dear Friends,

Thanks for your suggestions, I tried them all to no avail. It still ejects almost all disks (I did get it to take the cleaning disk). I also tried a variety of other far out suggestions, change languages, hold it upside down, trash dvd preferences, etc. Could it be the firmware? I looked all over to find firmware for my drive UJ-845E( mATSHITA)  no luck.

Lots of people seem to have similar problems.

    Any other ideas? Thanks
