My desktop screen keep flashing

My desktop screen keep flashing with intervals of 3 seconds... Also finder windows keep closing when i open it and it keep jumping at the bar. It ask me every third second about if i won't to re open the closed windows or not.

I tried to log in into another account and it stopped flashing? But it won't stop flashing on my primary account?

What can i do?

I have a 20" cinema display hooked up to my Mac Pro 2.8ghz.

Monitor has worked great until todays 10.7.2 update. Now my screen flickers crazy every 1 second.

The strange part is if I do a software update, during the search for new updates, the monitor does not flicker at all and is rock solid.

This tells me that something in Lion 10.7.2 has ruined my monitor connection. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I may stroke out from this monitor.

Thanks

It's definitely a driver issue. Starting up in safe mode (hold down SHIFT while booting) removes the flickering but makes the screen response times very slow.

Like others here I'm using an older Cinema Display with an Apple ADC-DVI adapter, which suggests there's an incompatibilty between the 10.7.2 drivers and the adapter.

I'm going to try substituting the 10.7.1 driver extensions one by one and see if that fixes the problem. I'll report back if I have any sucess.

Ok i thought that i was going crazy. I have a Mac Pro 1.1. It is modified with new 5770 GPU, dual quad core CPU's, and 16 gb of ram.

I noticed in this thread that most people that are having this issue have an older ADC montitior. I dont see how there coudl be any issue. I ran 10.7.1 flawlessly, and then when i upgraded today i have a flickering screen. Its like the computer is spazing out. But what is weird is when you click the screen saver on, it goes away.

I am able to use everything on my computer, but i have this annoying flickering.

I have no idea what Apple did in this update, but what ever is happening i hope gets addressed.

Does anyone have a solultion, other than having to go back to 10.7.1?

Is this just isolated to Mac Pro Users?

I think the growing evidence points to the issue being ADC adaptor related.

I have come into work where I have exactly the same Mac hardware and OS version as that of my machine at home excepting a DVI connected monitor.

Applied the 10.7.2 update and have no flicker at all.

So after a day of the flickering, and trying everything to solve it, I have fixed mine at least for now.

I took the monitor cable from the Apple DVI/ADC adaptor out my MacPRO while it is on, right out of the video

card. Then I waited about 10 seconds and plugged it back into the video card.

Problem solved. I have not rebooted, no sleep mode and I have not logged out since doing this, so I do not

know if this fixed it for good.

So far it is back to it's good old self. Let me know if this works for anyone else.

Thanks

Not really a final fix but thanks for posting.

It certainly looks like Apple has decided that support for the ADC-DVI adapter has ended. Obviously 10.7.2 was never tested on an adapter-equipped rig if this issue slipped through testing. Having to replug the DVI connection everytime you switch on your machine is not a accecptable solution, at least not for me.

It looks like the old plastic screen has had its day.

The plug/unplug method works for me but it comes back when waking from sleep. Same setup as post parent Mac Pro 1,1 ATI Radeon 5770 and a 20" acrylic cinema display running through the ADC adapter. If this continues I'll have to consider purchsing a new monitor, which would be a shame because there isn't actually anything wrong with this one. Who makes a worthwhile monitor these days? Not sure I want to buy an aluminum 20" Cinema Display since they seem to cost a good deal of dough still...

Hi Bob

Exactly the same thing with the same set up my old Cinema Displays has worked for years flawlessly and now this bug with the latest Lion

I get rid of it by disconnecting the ACD-DVI adapter, but that it should not be that way.

any other ideas, how can I go back to Lion 10.7.1???

How can I get feedback from Apple ????

This definetely appears to be a general problem for all of us that still use the very good but old Cinema Display with the ACD adapter

Thanks,

AppleLou
