Oct 6, 2011 10:39 PM in response to mikecorpby gitarzysta,I don't want to speak for everyone but once I upgraded my ATV2 to the firmware version they issued a few months ago (just upgrade to the latest version to be on the safe side) the problem's gone.
And I have a Philips TV, and yes, I did experience the "reverted colors" problem before.
So yes there is a fix. Will it work for you? I can't answer.
The ATV2 units they currently ship are for sure equipped with the latest firmware.
Question to others:
The mentioned firmware update when it was originally released added an option to change between several HDMI output modes: RGB High/Low/Auto etc.
The latest firmware does not allow me to change the HDMI mode anymore nevertheless the problem did not reappear.
Is it normal I can't change the output with the latest builds?

Oct 13, 2011 4:31 AM in response to Arcade99by nbren,The Sony KDL37S550 is still flicking since the iOS5 (4.4) software release. However it doesn't offer the option now to change the Output Mode from Auto (previously it was stuck on this), and to choose the Output Resolution. I have tried a few and I still get the odd flicker, so I'm sure it's just a case of getting the correct combination of settings. Anyone else had any success?
Incidently, I think it is a quicker flicker than it was before, and it doesn't show the TV mode in the corner like it used to. Still irritating though.

Oct 19, 2011 6:57 PM in response to Arcade99by eranfromhallandale,DId the newer version of atv2 software 4.4.1 solve the issue?
I'm having the same problem but can't upgrade yet. I'm using ver 4.3 in it tells me it is up to date.

Oct 20, 2011 12:47 AM in response to Arcade99by nbren,The new software has made no difference on my Sony KDL37S500, it still flickers black often. I have tried all the modes, only RGB High & Low seem to work, the YUV option triggers Auto.
As for the resolutions, I have been through them and not found one that works, so I stick with 720p (60hz) for now.
The software updated to 4.4 initially, the subsiquent release hasn't showed up, I understand this is an update to allow those struggingly to update to 4.4 to update, so I think I'm ahead of that update already.

Oct 20, 2011 1:05 AM in response to gitarzystaby mikecorp,It is 4.4 (3140) Yes I can change it to RGB or lower settings. I have everything on auto, I did not play with anything since the first day.
I only noticed, that the movies in Itunes store looks pretty crappy if they are not in HD.
-Problem is, that I like to watch everything in Original language and subtitles. But the Luxembourg store doesn't have any subtitles! only German, French, Dutch dubbing ;( BAH

Oct 28, 2011 2:33 AM in response to Arcade99by GuillermoFromAlbolote,Hi,
After almost one year, the problem seems to have been solved for me. THANK YOU APPLE.
TV: Philips 37PFL9604H
Apple TV2 software: 4.4.2 (3160)
Apple TV2 iOS: 5.0 (9A336a)
Yesterday my Apple TV received 2 updates.
The first one made me loose all my settings (WiFi setup, accounts for iTunes, Youtube, Vimeo...).
I set everything and then I received the second update. This one didn't remove any setting. You can see the final version above.
Since then, I've used my Apple TV2 for many hours without remarkable issues (only a black screen for maybe 1 second in hours of use).
I've watched my iTunes music videos for the first time in my ATV2 without interruptions. GREAT. I've also played movies and airplayed photos and videos.
I had not used it for so long since I bought it in January, as it was such a disappointing experience.
I emailed Steve Jobs about this problem last July, I like to think he put someone to work on it.
Thanks again!!

Nov 18, 2011 12:24 AM in response to nbrenby nbren,Updated software to 4.4.3 but still flickers on my Sony KDL37S550. I also replaced my HDMI cable with a 1.4 super cable, but that also made no difference.

Nov 28, 2011 5:34 AM in response to nbrenby hobx,Someone with a Sony found a workaroud on another thread. I don't have the link as it was a few days ago but it has been working for me. I have a Sony KDL40W4000. Change Pixel Mode to Normal. (Home, features, set up, screen settings, display area). This has completely fixed the issue. It does mean the tv overscans some content which is irritating, but the point is its less irritating than the flicker.

Nov 28, 2011 12:03 PM in response to hobxby nbren,Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I have looked through all the menus now and can't find an option for this at all. In fact I don't have a screen setting menu. I've only got a settings > picture adjustments menu which offers nothing in the way of this. It's getting really irritating now, may have to try using a HDMI to DVI to VGA or HDMI to Component, but I'm hoping someone can fix it!
