I too am disapointed that location reminders don't work with the the 3GS or the iPad 2...

Hopefully this is something that will change. I know originally the "find my phone" app was supposed to only work with iPhone 4, it later worked with the 3Gs..

    fingers crossed.

Thanks RezX - I was struggling with that too!! Now working perfectly.

    Cheers!

Stinky... no Ipad support for location based reminders!

It would be good for Apple to keep from disappointing users by letting them know ahead of time that not all of the 200 new features are for everyone.

Ipad 1 users also don't get four finger multi task support...  Although there is a 10 second jail break fix for that, so it's not a hardware issue, either an oversight, or more likely, marketing.

I ran into the same problem.  What's missing is that you need to enable Reminders in iCloud before it will show up. After you go to Settings->iCloud->Reminders "ON", you can then do the previously mentioned Menu view of Reminders in the Reminders app.

When using Exchange as the only item, it doesn't differentiate in the reminders list.  IF there are multiple types (e.g., Exchange and iCloud), then you can select the iCloud Reminders and get the location-based reminders.

Thanks so much for figuring this out! I didn't know if I had to enable location services for reminders (which I couldn't find) or what. Thanks!!

I have been banging my head to turn on Location Reminders on my 3GS (which I thought would work, because nowhere in any presentation did Apple make it clear that it is only for 4/4S phones). however after spending umpteen hours, I came to realization that it is only on 4+ phones (thankfully my 4S is arriving tomorrow :-) )

In the meantime, this time I am a bit disappointed with Apple in how they have arranged the whole iCloud tech. It is NOT intuitive to set up for folks who have multiple a/c. You need to understand the different between partial backup, full backup and sync to make sense out of iCloud, iTunes sync over WiFi and plethora of settings.:-(

Request to fan boys - I am one myself (have iPhone, iPad, iMac, MBP and MBA) as well as am an engineer so please don't comment to suggest that it is due to my ignorance and that I should 'accept' it the way it is.

    thanks

rockdw is that for 3GS or iPad 1?

I have that all set in my 3GS but still can't get the location reminder to work

It appears to be only iPhone4/4S.  My daughter's 3GS also suffers from not being able to use it. :-(

I've figured out that if you put an item on the "Tasks" list, the "location" option doesn't show up under "Remind Me"

I had to make a list called "Reminders". Then when I added a new item to the "Reminders" list, the option to remind me at a location showed up.

One shortfall I've found is that to pick a location it either has to be your "current location" or it has to be in your address book to select it. So I have to put my grocery store address or the mall in my "Address Book" in order for it to remind me when I get there. There may be some times I want to be reminded but not add it to my "Address Book".

It would be nice to be able to use "Maps" app to drop a pin and set a reminder from within "Reminders". The way it is now you have to leave "Reminders" to go to the "Maps" app to drop a pin and then add it to you contacts, go back to reminders, then select it as a location.

I can't believe this!  Apple needs to make this feature available on the 3GS.  I understand some big feature like Siri not being on a 3GS (and 4) but not location based reminders.  Because surely there isn't a hardware reason to not include this.

    Why Apple?  :-(

Has anyone gotten this to actually work yet? I had it all set up today to remind me when I arrived somewhere...only to find that nothing popped up to remind me when I arrived. I opened the app and what pops up? Something saying to turn on wifi to work...how does that make any sense?? I don't have wifi everywhere I go...I was in a store. My 3G signal was 5 bars...and I'm on an iphone 4.

Has anyone determined how Reminders treats entries that are set for both "On a Day" and "At a Location"?  For example, I just set up a reminder to give my dog medicine on the first day of each month at 5 p.m. when arriving at my home.  What will this do?  I assume it will remind me at 5 p.m. on Nov. 1 regardless, but what about the location piece?  Will it wait until Nov. 1, start checking my location around 5 p.m. and also alert me when I'm close to home?  I would hope it won't monitor my location from now until Nov. 1.  I haven't found any answers to this yet, so I'm curious if anyone else has.

I actually did get this to work today! I set up a test right before I went out to lunch, and maybe 30-40 yards from my office building, it gave me the reminder. I was on 3G at the time (when I set it up, too). I have another one set up for when I arrive somewhere after work today; we'll see if it works.

A note, though: it is slaughtering my battery life. I'm trying not to worry about that too much, since we're getting our new ones tomorrow, but... yeah. I don't know if it only does constant location finding if there's a location-based reminder for that day, or, if you have any location-based reminders at all (even a year in advance), then the location stuff will be pinging constantly? I hope it's the former or something along those lines. I certainly won't be using it if it drains 10% of the battery in less than an hour all the time. I guess it's supposed to location-seek less frequently when the phone is locked, but still--this thing doesn't need anything else trying to drain the battery.

"IOS 5 is compatible with iPhone 3GS" http://t.co/K4eiFGtK No relevant footnotes. So where ARE my Location Reminders?

This *****. At least they could be honest in their marketing.

And could everyone please mention what kind of iPhone/iPad they have? Especially when you got it working.

I have an iPhone 3GS clearly
