Oct 13, 2011 6:37 AM in response to andyfrombishop aucklandby Bill1978,I would be surprised if Apple admit's failure. When talking with them they blame ATT for the sim card problem.I also have restored on my Pc and Mac Book Pro. I was able to downgrade on my Mac since it has not been updated to the new ITunes I had the same results.Looks like I will just need to wait and see if apple pushes a fix in the coming days.I found it odd that ATT offered me a new phone of my choice just not any Apple branded phone.

Oct 13, 2011 9:43 AM in response to westside03by heyXalan,Same problem with O2 in the UK. It's not O2 issue though as they tried 3 working SIMS in the shop for me. Can't fault them to be honest. Lot of posts on here about it. Looks like a server issue, probably overloaded or crashed. I hope it's fixed soon, feel like I've lost a limb!

Oct 13, 2011 10:04 AM in response to westside03by ezefromlondon,After going to the orange store (uk), I went to the apple store..no luck but THEN.. they tried a different orange sim and it worked! My phone is now activated but my own sim card does not work which means I have to order a new micro sim from orange, which will take 4 days atleast my phone is activated i guess. but still a very big hastle and took up alot of my day to sort out.

Oct 13, 2011 11:32 AM in response to westside03by erin289,I was the first person to go to my Apple Store with this issue.. stumped them all... I had my macbook with me - we tried mine and 2 of their laptops and got the same errors.... they tried 2 sims they had and same thing.... luckily I had recieved a replacement phone at the end of July and was still under the 90 warranty (day 86) - I got a replacement phone on IOS4 --- will wait a week before I try to update again. My Ipad (1) upgrade was smooth. uuggh ... I was looking forward to playing with the new features....

Oct 13, 2011 11:34 AM in response to erin289by achupp,My situation today was the same. Just got back from the Apple Store after being there for 2 hours. They replaced my SIM card there, and that didn't work when trying to restore my iPhone 4. I was out of warranty 91 days, but they resorted to giving me a new phone as well since that's all they could have done. The problem is obvisouly bigger than this as it's really just putting a band-aid over a problem that nobody seems to know how to solve. AT&T thinks it's Apple. Apple thinks its AT&T......

Oct 13, 2011 11:38 AM in response to westside03by Bill1978,I went to my local Apple store and explained what was going on and the genius looked at the phone for a few seconds and went out back and grabbed me a new one.I was out of warranty but they still covered it everything now working. So I am happy again if you live close enough to an apple store give it a shot.Should also add I did try 4 new SIM cards at the AT&T store still nothing worked so the employee told me to try Apple.

Oct 13, 2011 12:54 PM in response to westside03by syclone,I'm having the same problem. Went to the AT&T store and tried 4 differenet SIM cards. Went to the Apple Store and they couldn't fix the problem either. I'm out of warranty and the Apple Store will not give me a replacement phone. I'm screwed.

Oct 13, 2011 3:20 PM in response to westside03by peterfromwaterloo,I am having this same issue. I upgraded a brand new iphone 4, unlocked, never been jailbroken or anything like that, and after i downloaded ios 5 and upgraded the phone to it, i'm getting "SIM not valid. Only compatible SIM cards from a supportted Carrier may be used to activate iphone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported Carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card".
No idea what to do....
Any help is welcome!

Oct 13, 2011 7:14 PM in response to westside03by Mary Dube,I had the same thing TWICE.
I went to the Apple store. They made me get a new SIM card from AT&T. This didn't work so they gave me a new phone with 4.3.5. I took it home and updated it this morning to ios 5 and the same thing happened with the new phone and the new SIM.
I went to Apple again today and again they made me get a new SIM and gave me another new phone and (get this) told me NOT to update it to ios 5 until 5.1 comes out. WHAT?!?! Right now I am just happy to have a working phone, but I think it is ridiculous that I am supposed to wait until the next version of 5 comes out.
(BTW.... AT&T told me they think Apple got a bad batch of replacement phones and this is what is happening.)
