Q: No AirPlay mirroring button on iPad 2, ios5?

Double-touching the home button on my iPad 2, ios5 and swiping to the right should reveal an airplay button to mirror my iPad display to my TV (thru AppleTV). But there is no button. Anyone know why?

The button should be there, with Apple TV or not. It is happening to me too. I don't have an Appletv but I had the button befor ios5, so I don't understand how the button is lost now.

you might try to push the button on an application that has airplay like video or photos

then swipe and see if it shows up

my apple tv mirror button did not show up until I updated my apple tv YMMV

Did you swipe to the right twice? Its there on mine. Its the original AirPlay button, one you click apple TV, it then gives you the option to mirror. I had to search for it.

On your Apple TV you need to go to Settings > General > Software Update.  Once you have the latest software installed on both devices, make sure they are both connected to the same wireless network. Then on your iPad multi-tasking bar, when you swipe right, there will be an airPlay button, when you tap it you should see your apple TV in the list and a switch below it to turn on mirroring.

I had the same problem and it took me a while to figure it out.

    1. Your iPad and your Apple TV need to be running the latest software
    2. Both devices need to be connected via the same WiFi network
    3. Reboot your iPad (hold down the lock button and the home button for 6 seconds) ** this is important
    4. Restart your Apple TV
    5. Restart your router

Turn on the iPad, double click the home button, scroll to the left and you will see the AirPlay button.

Jeffreyfromhydepark and others actually had the right idea. What happened is that my router no longer recognized the AppleTV. Rebooting the modem, router and the AppleTV made the Airplay button appear on my ipad. Thanks, everyone.

I updated ipad2, bought appletv, added it to the wireless, turned on airplay. Then connected to the same access point with my ipad 2. I then swiped to get to airplay, and it shows only ipad and my apple tv. I select apply tv, and no mirroring or additional button shows. I have double checked to make sure both are the latest version, rebooted the ipad, rebooted the appletv, rebooted the access point. Still no mirrowing or button to turn it on.

Your Apple TV is probably not up to date. Go to settings - about. It needs to be version 4.4

If not, then wait as the update is currently down, or grab a micro usb, disconnect ATV, and connect to iTunes.

OK. Called Apple- apple tv update has been off 3 days, and no idea when it will be up again. So if you bought your AppleTV for mirrowing, hold that receipt and box so you can return it if they can't get this fixed in a reasonable amount of time. IOS5 out on Wednesday, tried to see it work in 2 Apple stores with mirroring on Thursday. Neither had it updated and couldn't help me. The next Thursday i purchased it so I could update it. No I can't update it.

You can update it through iTunes with micro USB, most users are having success with that. I'm sure the direct update will be back shortly
