Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

This came up last year I recall with iPhone 4. I think it's because the devices have literally just been produced. And should get better with time. I've not had chance to look at mine yet.

I have the same issue.  My 4S screen is less contrasty, and the whites are more yellow (beyond "warm") compared to my iPhone 4 screen.  The colors are less vibrant, and some are pretty washed out.  I've also noticed that the screen is more directional than the 4 screen, and in some viewing angles it's more yellow, and in others it's more contrasty.  I'm really hoping this is a glue issue, which could improve.  I don't think I'll be able to get used to this.

Yes. Compared with my old iPhone 4, the 4S screen is washed out with a yellow tint. I'm not happy

Same issue here....is it because they are new....seems alot of the 4S displays have a warmer tint to them.

This is NOT normal. I recieved two iPhone 4S's, one white and one black. The black 4S has a VERY yellow tint to the screen- unlike any iPhone I have ever had, the white 4S has a very WHITE and normal screen. Comparing to my old iPhone 4, the black 4S is yellow and the white 4S and black 4 are normal and similar to each making the yellow very obvious. Yellowgate perhaps?

When I got my iPhone 4 a year ago, it had a yellow tint.  After about 2 weeks, the tint cleared up, and it displayed colors normally.  The issues with the 4S, are most likely the same.  The "glue" used to put the screens together hasn't fully cured yet.  The phones are made, and shipped very quickly to fill customer demand, they haven't had the time to set yet.  i would say give it at least a week and if you don't notice a change, then possibly exchange  it.  But it's just my suggestion.

Just another "yup, got that problem" chiming in.  I have a white model; i've always had the black before.  at first I thought it was just apparent contrast.  but nope.  definately a bleached feel to it.  Contrast is set too high, relateive to two iPHone 4 models kicking around the house (my old and wife's).  Hope it just needs to, umm, break in.  Haven't had this issue before in numberous phones in the family.

I went into an Apple Store in North London to return my 4S, but all the black 4S display models were either the same or worse on contrast/yellow tint. I didn't think to look at any white 4S models as it's a black one I want. Although the Genius Bar was not initially keen to replace the phone they reluctantly agreed to swap on the issue of a screen (one time only).

However, having seen the other display models I decided not to swap as the store would not show me the replacement until it had been activated and by then too late to go back to my original phone (an unlocked 4S). Instead, Apple have made a note of my complaint and guaranteed a replacement any time within warranty if I feel there is still a problem with the screen. Meanwhile I am going to see if the screen does brighten over the next few weeks (the yellow glue). The Genius Bar did suggest that it might brighten over a period of a few weeks' use.

Yes. Mine iphone 4s screen has the  awful yellow tint and looks washed out. Its even more obvious comparing it side by side to my old iphone 4.

I'm taking it back if it doesn't get any better in 2 weeks.

I noticed this pretty much straight away on my black iPhone 4S, compared to my iPhone 4 the screen looks washed out and yellow

Really not happy that I am about to sell a phone with a nicer looking screen than my new $1000 AUD one.

This problem is definitely not on ALL iPhone 4S's because I put my sister-in-law's white 4S side by side with mine and it looked much nicer like my iPhone 4. I don't think it's a black v white thing though because I compared it to another white 4S and that also had the yellow tint. Hopefully it is just the glue being too new and it goes away in a couple of weeks otherwise I think I'm going to have to return it. It annoys me every time I use it and see whites looking off-white and blues looking slightly green.

My iPhone 4 was a joy to look at, I was expecting the same experience from the 4S!

Yellowgate...LOL. Just adding a me to!

I wonder if this is actually a screen defect or intended design though...
