Oct 14, 2011 7:21 AM in response to NOT-MEEby Samuel Chambers,I think this is a server overload issue because of the transition and NOT a permanent problem with Outlook.
Yesterday I was able to use Outlook 2011 when iCloud mail was having all sorts of problems. Today I get the same message as you.
I'm using the settings laid out in the KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
Again, this all worked perfectly fine (if occasionally slow) for me yesterday. That's why my guess is that this really is just a problem of busy servers on these imap servers.

Oct 14, 2011 8:04 AM in response to Samuel Chambersby Julian Wright,I could not check email using the server settings Apple provides in that support article, however using the following SMTP server worked fine:
p02-imap.mail.me.com

Oct 14, 2011 8:17 AM in response to NOT-MEEby kamikaze2112,Having similar troubles here on both Thunderbird (weapon of choice) and Outlook 2011. Been thru the settings described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864 to no avail. keeps timing out.
I hope they get this mess sorted out, because I really dislike Mail.app

Oct 14, 2011 8:22 AM in response to kamikaze2112by Julian Wright,Did you see my message above with a different server address?

Oct 14, 2011 8:23 AM in response to Julian Wrightby Julian Wright,Sorry, that should be IMAP server, not SMTP server.

Oct 14, 2011 8:27 AM in response to Julian Wrightby kamikaze2112,Yea, I've tried that addres, p01, p99 (which Mail.app seem to use for my account) with no luck. it would just reject the password. at least using just the imap address without the pxx- in front seems to time out instead of just flat out refusing the password.

Oct 14, 2011 12:59 PM in response to Samuel Chambersby Phillip Ash,I didn't think ICloud worked on Outlook 2011? I certainly haven't been able to get it working! Has anyone got this confirmed working?
Phil.

Oct 14, 2011 1:45 PM in response to NOT-MEEby Csound1,Outlook 2011 for Mac is not compatible with iCloud, there is no workaround. You can use Apple Mail, iCal and Address Book instead.

Oct 15, 2011 5:36 PM in response to Csound1by Samuel Chambers,I must disagree with Csound. iCloud is intended to work as a standard IMAP email, though apple will not support you in troubleshooting it.
Yesterday there were problems with authentication on those servers, but today I am using Outlook 2011 Mac with iCloud and having no problems. I am using the standard settings listed in the apple KB, here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
Again, there were overloaded server problems yesterday, but it's fine today both sending and receiving iCloud mail.

tsk tsk Samuel, how misleading can you get.
I said "Outlook 2011 for Mac is not compatible with iCloud" and it is not, but your suggestion is fine for users who don't need contacts or calendars, you know, people with no life to attend to or acquaintances to contact.

Oct 16, 2011 9:40 AM in response to Csound1by Samuel Chambers,Hey, sorry. I'm not trying to mislead anyone - so no reason for the tone.
The OP was asking specifically about email with Outlook 2011. The discussion was originally about failure to get the iCloud email settings to work with Outlook 2011 as a Mac client.
I was answering only about that.
It's possible to use iCal and the Mac OS X address book for your calendars and contacts, and then to use Outlook 2011 for your mail client. This is a viable solution for people "with a life," as you put it, that also incoprorates Outlook 2011 as an IMAP client with iCloud mail.
So if the question is about getting icloud mail to work with outlook (and this was the question): it can be done.
As to the separate question -- not posed by the OP -- of whether Outlook 2011's address book and calendars will work with iCloud: I haven't even looked into this, but if you say it doesn't work I have no reason to doubt it.
