    @yorkmin

You have been misinformed Unsanity is still in business. http://unsanity.com/

I have ordered Windowshade and Fruitmenu for 4 clients over the lastmonths

Unsanity is not updating their haxies for Lion that s true, but that is Apple fault, not Unsanity's
the OS was drastically changed with Lion

Why is it Apple's fault? A new OS is bound to have changes. unsanity are known to take ages (over a year in my experience) to upgrade WindowShadeX for the latest OS.

Perhaps you saying that the Lion changes to the guts of the OD are so extensive that unsanity (unlike Default Folder, Flip4Mac, Perian etc. which work in Lion) unsanity alone need so much work to do that it will necessarily take until next Summer (on past performance) to upgrade WSX? If true, it seems that it is no-one's fault, just the way things are.

but that is Apple fault, not Unsanity's

If Apple supported every third party app that a few people demanded remain, then the Apple OS would be an abomination. Most things that were of any value have been incorporated into the latest OSXs and it is the company's responsibility to keep up, not Apple's nor Window's. Adobe and other major players are quick off the mark as a rule, but smaller one's cannot cope with the changes that have inevitably come along, so if they can't keep up, then it's goodbye, and they can only blame themselves.

I am not sure I am misinformed. How can I be? They don't answer emails, so who knows? They may be selling what they have already produced, but may not be updating: we can't know unless they tell us. And that's the real problem. They have every right to do what they want, whenever they want. But if they want to keep loyal customers it would be nice to see just a sentence even on the site saying, "Working on the Lion version." It's called courtesy.

Yes, I am having a hard time living without windowshade. It used to be a feature of apple in the 1980s. I have suggested to APPLE that they take it over again if possible. Unsanity has constantly been non responsive. It took forever to get the snow Leopard version and now no one really knows if they'll take care of a Lion upgrade. Some on the forum think it would not be so difficult. I have little hope in  Unsanity.  If anyone hears anything I'd love to know. I have paid for windowshade at lease once and maybe again for the upgrade. I feel there has to be some obligation to those of us who paid for this application which is sooooo good and makes APPLE LIFE easier and more user friendly.

I don't think this is APPLE's fault, but apple did have windowshade feature in the very beginning and then they somehow gave it up and Unsanity took it over. Why this happened I'll never know. I have already asked Apple to please try to install this feature again, but most likely they cannot. BUT if Unsanity will not deliver, I think Apple should say something or do something about this.

    History of Apple's Windowshade

WindowShade was a control panel for the Mac OS that allowed a user to double-click a window's title bar to "roll up" the window like a windowshade. When the window was "rolled up", only the title bar of the window was visible; the part of the window that displayed the contents disappeared, allowing easier manipulation of the windows on the screen.

It debuted in System 7.5, but disappeared in Mac OS 8, when the feature was implemented as a part of the Appearance Manager. A widget was added to the title bar to reproduce the functionality. The entire feature disappeared with the release of Mac OS X; since windows could be minimized to the Dock or moved aside with Exposé, Apple decided there was no more use for it.

The WindowShade control panel itself stems from a third-party utility originally written for System 6.0.7 by Rob Johnston. Apple purchased the rights to this software from the developer for use in System 7.5.

Unsanity NEVER took up the Windowshade, they created a system hack APE and modules that worked with APE to alter the way things in OSX worked.

If you can't live without Unsanity's Windowshade , then DON'T upgrade to Lion.
Your computer will still work under 10.68, you'll still be able to send and receive emails, write documents, alter photos, listen to music thru iTunes, create stunning graphics, and videos and waste hours on facebook and in this long winded Apple Discusssions. GET OVER IT PEOPLE !!!

Well what kind of control does it have over the haxie windowshade? apparently none! What about this Rob Johnston? Does he still have righs to windowshade? how do we reach him? If apple purchased rights from him for this, who has the rights now? The Doc and none of the other schemes have been as useful as windowshade. I did have a sibstitue at one time, not the same thing, but don't know if there is any under the new system.

I have seen this statement from Unsanity in every new OS version. The problem is they do not update their apps for such a long time, then charge for it and about 6 to 8 month later a new OS X comes to market. I have updated once. Which means I paid twice and each time got to use the haxie about 6 months. No longer will I support them in anyway.

I have 5 macs out in the lab and 5 aliases to their desk top in my fruit menu.  A single click and I am on the desktop of the networked mac where I can drop things my people need.  Can anybody please suggest how I can do this without fruitmenu.  What is the native Mac alternative?  (Obviously I don't want 5 alias icons cluttering up my own already cluttered desktop.)

Not sure there is a native Mac alternative, but I'd recommend Butler (very capable and customizable) http://manytricks.com/butler/ or XMenu (simple and freeware) http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/. Butler is my favourite.

This thread is about Unsanity haxies and you are not running FruitMenu you are running Classic Menu.

Your comment is irrelevant to this thread

It was in response to "oxcart," see the part in bold:
