yes that's correct.
I have in fact found out what the problem was - when I installed iOS5 on my iphone and went to iCloud in settings - it requested my Apple ID - not my existing MobileMe e-mail (which is where all my data is). It seems that many of my friends have made the same mistake.
I then had to go back in setup my MobileMe - -> iCloud in my mail, calendars etc with the result that I had two iCloud accounts on all my devices and a complete mess.
The Genius bar helped to to see the problem and sort it out.
However I still remain very unimpressed with the way Apple have handled this entire issue - if they had only allowed MobileMe users to use their @me.com address as their Apple ID & iCloud instead - all of this chaos could have been avoided.
