Anybody having issues with email and contacts after upgrading to iOS 5? I can't add/edit/view contacts or use my email account since upgrading. When I try to go into the Mail/Contacts/Calenders menu under settings, it instantly sends me back to the home screen so I cannot use it. Can't merge contacts with iCloud either...same thing happens. Already went to the Apple Store twice for this today and they replaced the phone but the same thing is happening to the replacement. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated...

I have exactly the same problem. Did anyone find a solution so far. iCloud is not active for me but I can't get both mail settings and contact apps to work. iPhone upgrade worked fine though...

I am also having similar issues.

From the forums, other users online fixes seem to work after "switching on" contacts in SETTINGS>iCLOUD.

When I try this and get  a "YOUR CONTACTS WILL BE MERGED WITH iCLOUD" box -  I tap this and also get kicked back to the front home screen.

I also get kicked back to home screen when I tap SETTINGS>MAIL,CONTACTS,CALENDARS.

I've tried a hard reset and restore but no joy - anyone any ideas ?

Hi, same problem here. Any time I try to open Mail/Contacts/Calendars... it jumps out to the home screen. And also can not create new contacts. When trying to switch on contacts in iCloud settings it also quits to the home screen. When I log in to the contacts book is empty so iPhone is not syncing to iCloud. iTunes is also not syncing properly, backup takes ages although the iPhone is new and almost empty. All these problems exist only since upgrading to iOS 5. I have a suspicion that it may as well have something to do with multiple user accounts on Windows 7. I have installed iOS 5 twice but nothing got better. Let`s try to find solution!

Hi there - it's me again - found a solution which involved a totally clean restore as a new iPhone.

Do NOT USE an existing BACK-UP to restore or YOU'LL END UP WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS.

When asked to sign on to iCloud ----DECLINE ---- then put your stuff back on piece by piece. After all that's done you can switch Contacts on in iCloud and Roberts your Auntie's husband.

Once all done back it up a few times to overwrite old existing back-ups.

    Best of luck

I just wanted to say exactly the same. This is what I did and it was the solution. This is to do with a possible faulty backup then. Otherwise everything is working.

I also have mail probs since the ios5 update. When I open mail on my 32GB iPhone 4 running iOS 5 it opens, gives a blank white screen, then quits after about ten seconds, returning to the home screen. A second attempt and it launches fine. I did an update to ios 5 and not a clean install but I don't want to wipe everything if I can help it. All other aspects of ios5 seem fine. Any ideas anyone?? By the way, I'm still syncing mail with Mobile Me as not yet on Lion on my Mac so can't "upgrade" (downgrade?!?) to iCloud yet.

it's one of two things: either ios5 or the iTunes upgrade needed to install ios5 UNCHECKS the box in iTunes that syncs your contacts.

Go to iTunes, go to "Info" in the top menu, check the box to sync your contacts, then sync again, and all will be well. You will have your contacts, and your Favorites will be names instead of numbers.
