The iPhone 4S does not have the same standby time as previous iPhones. instead of 300.... It is really 200. iCloud and all of those reminders and other iOS 5 stuff uses a lot of power, even when the phone is in sleep mode.

Yes, I understand all that.  However:  Location services are off except for Siri, iTunes auto sync is OFF, Auto sync with iCloud is OFF, no programs running in backround.  The phone is essentially a stand alone phone.  In sleep mode most of the day, and it drains at 10-15% an hour anyway.

I agree with your approximate 10-15% per hour.  I'm not really sure what's going on here.

But then again, I remember my iPad 2 battery was awful the first week or so and then it "smarted up".

I have all of those same features turned off including Bluetooth and push notifications. I even set me email to manual sync and the thing is still daring battery like crazy in standby. There is no way this phone could last 200 hours just sitting there when it drains almost fifty percent in one night.

I got my iPhone 4S 32GB (Sprint) on Friday.  After activating and syncing with iTunes, and light use throughout the weekend,  I still have 49% battery life remaining on Monday with location services on (have not yet charged it; it's still running off the charge it had when I received it).  We do have a very strong signal here thanks to a femtocell in our home which supposedly helps extend battery life, but otherwise I have been impressed with the 4S's battery.

I've switched off SIRI and taken out my exchange mailbox - lets see if this helps. Will post back in an hour.

    Doing a reboot now.

Did a full reinstall yesterday morning, turned on some services (not blue tooth).  Right now it is at 6%.  The standby time has been 21 hours 58 minutes, usage 5 hours 40 minutes.  Call time (since I got the phone friday morning) is 21 minutes...  Drive to an Apple store and ask for a different phone?  What else should I do?

I have At&T, and am using their MicroCell, so I also have full bars and 3G in the house.  You're lucky your phone battery is doing alot better than mine.

I'd wait it out a few days.  The likelyhood of them having stock of phones to replace is slim

Got mine Friday and it is losing charge quickly too.  It seems to be better today.  When I got my first iphone I was told to drain it completely (at least to <5%) then charge it completely without using it during charges.  Do this for the first 3 charges and it will extend the battery life considerably.

I've done this will all my iphones and it works.  I'm on my second charge on the 4S and it's life is improving.  Fully charged last night and it's only at 93% now. So that's only 7% loss with just 29 minutes usage and 5 hours on standby.  That's a vast improvement since Friday.

I have one more complete draining to go and that should do it.

Try that, it sure has worked for me..

This is good news.  Thanks for sharing.

Again, I think I remember similar behavior with the iPad 2, which works great for me now, so we'll see

I let it shut off by itself (it seemed to stay on 1% for an hour).  Will follow your suggestion.  It does seem logical, but I sure don't recall having to do this with my 3GS when it was new.

Now while I did this on the 3GS I noticed increased battery drain running IOS 5.  One solution I found was to completly remover ALL mailboxes by physically deleting them in settings.  Reboot phone and re-install  each mail server (I have 3) so wasnt that hard and I only push my exchange server all others I manually check but even in 24 hrs I noticed a big difference after doing that.
