Hi. We are getting ready to upgrade a TON of laptops and the only option for buying new versions of FCP is X. (About 64 new copies.) Should we make the change? We're talking about 60 copies and I'm worried about some of the comments made here regarding compatability and bugginess.

Any advice? Fight to stay on the earlier versions or go for it?

Is this an educational institution, broadcast, independent production facility?

This is a version 1 of a new NLE, even though it has the same name, bear that in mind.  It will mature quickly, and prove itself in time.  But yes, there are some bugs.

But then, every NLE has some bugs and drawbacks.  Search any Vegas or PPro or Avid forum, you'll see their share of problems, too.  The differenece is those are more familiar bugs, these are new bugs in a new app we're all trying to learn.

I consult and teach at facilities all over the country, and depending on what you're doing, I'd suggest to stick with FCP X, Motion 5, Compressor 4 on new Macs, and grow with it as it grows.
